Emma’s Cottage House
Ranked #3 of 3 St. Marys B&B and Inns
Reviewed 19 February 2011

Being a B&B owner myself I have to say everything was perfect, Emmas lacked nothing. The home is beautiful, very clean, the bed was very comfortable, food was excellent and there was plenty of it, the innkeepers were wonderful and the price was competitive. We cant wait to return. Thank you for serving us while we were there.

My wife and I were looking for a romantic weekend getaway and found it in St. Marys, GA. Friends had recommended Emmas and we were happy they did.

The home is 3 blocks off the main street, within easy walk to everything. The decor is very tasteful: early American and the home features wide pine floors. The house itself is the best of both worlds - it is new enough, so everything works, but it looks and feels like a colonial home. The common areas and our room were beautiful (photos included) and very spacious. The breakfasts (included) were GREAT (homemade French toast and Belgian waffles on the two days we stayed with them).

Emma's offers free bikes to tour the village and I highly recommend it. The cemetery is very historic and the waterfront picturesque. We liked the hosts (Angie and Jimmy) very much and they were always available to help. On request, they will make you a lunch to take with you when you tour Cumberland Island.

Overall, it was a wonderful, quiet place, loaded with romance and charm, close to the village and restaurants with very nice owners and reasonably priced. Need I say more?

We had gone to St Mary's to buy a kayak - which we did. Decided to spend the night and the outfitter recommended Emma's. It is 'in town' close to everythng, was lovely, comfortable, clean and delightful. We walked the property, down to the waterfront, and back, breakafast was delicious - we thought it a great find! Take your bikes and peddle about town - we paddled but either way, very fun and Emma's was perfect.

My husband and I stayed here as a base of exploration for Cumberland Island. We found Emma's charming, impeccably decorated and maintained, and a cozy place to escape less-than-ideal weather during our outdoorsy vacation. The staff were extremely helpful with dining and activities suggestions, but not overbearing like some B and B's can be. Breakfasts were fantastic multicourse meals and the owners always had a homemade treat available during the day/evening. You can't control the weather, but you can control where you stay -- Emma's is a great option. Photos on the Web site didn't do the place justice, and we were a little worried that it was off the beaten path from the looks of the map --- but it was only a 2-minute walk from the ferry/waterfront area.

We spent two nights here and were a bit disappointed. The room was lovely but was not made up for our second night's stay and we had to request clean towels in addition to making our own bed. The breakfasts were okay but uninspired - fruit and french toast, fruit and a waffle.
My biggest complaint was paying around $160.00 to make my own bed.
But must say that the location is lovely and it's a cute town to spend a day or two wandering around and exploring Cumberland Island.

Emma's bed and breakfast is a remarkable remodeled victorian property in the heart of St. Mary's, Georgia. The main house has kept all of it's charm and history, while the additional cottages, though new, have been decorated to reflect the original time period. The additional cottages also offer seclusion and fun touches like a heart shaped bath tub for vacationing couples. The owners are longtime residents of St. Mary's. Besides being affable hosts, they can offer great tips on what to do and where to eat. We loved our stay and hope to return soon.
