Second Fairfield Inn this trip, same "Urk!" carpet and wall coverings straight out of 1982.

But it was impeccably clean, cheap, quiet, and the desk people were, once again, the perky and competent Marriott staff I'm starting to learn to expect. And the TV and available channels were one step better than similarly priced hotels I've encountered elsewhere.

Quibbles, not worth a point off: in 1982 the breakfast buffet would have been amazing. Today it's the IDENTICAL gunge you find everywhere from Super 8 to the lower-price Hiltons. Really?

And this thing took me an hour to find, WITH GPS AND STOPPING TWICE FOR DIRECTIONS. Not really a hotel problem, but you need to consider it if you've never been before. NOT convenient to anything I can see.

Otherwise, yes, absolutely, I'd book it again.

Room Tip: Do NOT expect to come balling into town and see this place right off the highway at entrance 666. Yo...

I'm in Dayton every week for work - and this is probably my favorite hotel.

Location: Not the greatest, tucked away behind Dayton Mall area, but near 675, Walmart, Target, Piada, and some other decent restaurants.

Hotel: It's newer, the lobby is a bit dingy, the pool is pretty institutional, and it does show some signs of the high traffic (the place is always busy, it has a steady following of business travelers). It doesn't have the coffee shop/bar thing Courtyards have, but it does have a snack bar, so it's not bad. Check-in service has always been pleasant, polite, and efficient. Never a bad experience.

Rooms: Here's the nice surprise, spotlessly clean, larger than you'd expect for the price. The tv area/bar and bathroom are all quartz, the bathroom is pleasantly modern. The shampoo conditioner are Pantene, as opposed to the Paul Mitchell at Courtyard, but otherwise all is swell.

All in, I'd recommend it easily.

My friend and I stayed here during our recent visit to Dayton. Last year I mentioned that the hotel was undergoing a remodeling to their breakfast area, and despite the construction, the hotel was a very nice place to stay.

This year we returned and the construction was done. The lobby and breakfast area are very nice and much larger than before. The furnishings are nice and welcoming. The staff was very nice, and our room was quite nice. I found the mattress very comfortable, and each bed had 5 pillows on it...some stuffed with down, and some with fiberfill.

No real problems, and we plan to stay here when we return next spring for our convention. My only concern was the actual breakfast. It is the usual fare of cereal, muffins, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and waffles. The hard boiled eggs were not very good. They seemed to be a little rubbery and tasted odd...not spoiled...just odd. On Saturday they offered scrambled eggs as well, and those eggs were not very good either. It is nice for the hotel to provide the breakfast in the cost of your room, but I was hoping for a little more in the breakfast.

We stayed in a king suite over Easter weekend. We wanted the suite for our child to have some separation in the pack n play for sleeping from us. There was a small divider wall that provided this. The bed was comfortable and the shower head and water pressure were great. Breakfast gave lots of choices for your standard complimentary hot breakfast.

To be honest, we chose this hotel because we were able to get the night free on points. It was a bit out of our way as we were driving highway 70, but still reasonably close to the highway. It would be VERY ideal for someone looking for a quick stop on highway 75. The hotel was quiet, clean and well maintained. The free breakfast was fine and the free internet access was good as well. The hotel is close to many restaurants and even a mall should you need it. Worked well for us.
