“Very nice place but staff behind the front desk needs help”
Reviewed 23 May 2011

We have been coming to this hotel for 3 years for Hamvention weekend and always fill our ten rooms. Every year there seems to be an issue at the front desk with rooms and reservations. Each prior year we just explained it away that maybe it was a new person behind the counter. This year that didn't fly. The hotel was full so I would think that you would have your "BEST" people in there to make sure everything went smooth. This hotel is very nice but the management is very hard to get in touch with. I made reservations for our group over 10 months ago for this past weekend. We reserved 10 rooms and confirmed our reservations with our credit cards and received emails stating the confirmation number and the type of room. We thought we were all set. Well for the most part we were but we had the following issues.

1. Even with our reservation numbers in hand (and checking in at 3:30 in the afternoon) a confirmation of a two room suite plus the actual e-mail stating this, we were "bumped" (hotel staff explanation) to a single room (1 bed) and the pull out in the sitting area. How can you be bumped if you have a confirmation/reservation number and an email stating this? (sorta makes you wonder why they need your credit card to hold the room) It was explained that we did have the 2 room suite but were bumped for some unknown reason. Well not good for two folks that want to share a room. After about two hours and finally getting the manager involved we were given a 2 room suite.

2. Evening staff at the front desk seemed to have very little compassion for the guests. We had multiple issues (outside fire pit didn't work on Sat night, Whirlpool luke warm at best) . We and others addressed these issues with the front desk and we were told that the maintenance guy looked but didn't know what the problem was and was not sure where the "Buttons" were to correct the issue. Folks the whirl pool and the outside gas fire pit are a huge draw that other hotels don't have you need to keep these up and running. You charge for these "EXTRAS" and we are willing to pay for them please keep them running and when we ask for help to keep them that way at least act like you care.

3. We had confirmed rooms and prices (or so we thought). When we checked out some folks had the confirmed price of $119 for a 2 bedroom suite, others had $109 and others had $129. Come on folks that is your cash flow at least get that right.

I know this seems like a rant but this place is really nice and the staff (not behind the front desk) is very helpful and friendly. The staff in the eating area is very polite, positive and is willing to help with anything. The cleaning staff does a superb job on the rooms and halls. Even after all of the issue stated above our club will be back next year. But we will be making sure that confirmed reservations are in hand and we will be making phone calls a week prior to our stay to reconfirm everything. This place just needs spiffing up behind the front desk (all the way up to the manger) and this will be a superb place to stay.

I am a Marriott Gold member (more than 50 nights/year) and prefer Courtyards and Residence Inns because the windows (usually) open for fresh air. I like my room on the cool side for sleeping, but this is a new Residence Inn and THE WINDOWS DO NOT OPEN, and THE THERMOSTATS WILL NOT ALLOW TEMPERATURES BELOW 68 DEGREES. I assume that is to reduce electricity expenses. The staff, what there is of it, is friendly and helpful but harried. The property is clearly run by bean counters not hospitality managers. The property is under staffed. this hotel - there is no engineer on the property so if anything goes wrong and its beyond the ability of the desk clerk you are out of luck.

we stayed in a 2 bedroom suite from march 26th through the 28th. upon check in our room was not ready. we waited in the lobby for approximately 30 minutes before we got the ok to go up to our room. the room itself was nice, although the refrigerator in the room was leaking something red...we had nothing red in the frig. the hotel seemed very busy. there was a birthday party, i think, at the hotel. lots and lots of young girls in the pool area....lots and lots of "trash" let around the pool area. on our first trip to the pool I CLEANED the whole pool area myself...dirty towels, used cups, wet socks, headbands, random earrings all over in the pool area. i didn't want my kids stepping on anything that could hurt them or use used towels, etc. the hot tub ended up being closed during our stay because of brown, dirty looking water, which both my kids had been in. one day after getting home both my kids have been to the doctor's office and both had ear infections...they never have had ear infections before and they are 6 and 8. i truly believe it is from the dirty hot tub and pool area. the location of this hotel is great...so many restaurant choices within seconds of the hotel. we went to the boonshoft museum of discovery and it was very enjoyable. but...with so many hotel choices we will not return to his one. overall with this being a fairly new hotel...it was pretty dirty in the common areas. crumbs, trash, etc. on the carpets everywhere we went inside.

All i have to say is this place is lucky to have such a good staff, the management team is very hard to contact and never seems to be on property, they never come out of there office except ot run out the front door to leave for the day, i was on this property for over a month and not once did I see a member of management, this is no way to run a hotel..... especially a residence inn I felt like i was at the fairfeild inn
I would not recomend this property for extended stay , only one night stays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the third time I have stayed at this hotel while visiting our daughter at University of Dayton. Although it is little bit of a drive from UD (10-12 min) it is worth it, especially considering the price difference between hotels closer to campus. We stay in the two bedroom, two bath and it is wonderful! Even with 5 teens/adults, we have plenty of room. Nice workout facility, adequate breakfast and plenty of restaurants nearby for dinner. There is even a nice outdoor patio with firepit that we have enjoyed on cool evenings. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Pros- large rooms, nice kitchen in room, nice tv, nice pool, lady at check in was friendly, good location, good parking, nice breakfast and friendly lady at breakfast

Cons- cleanliness of rooms need to be addressed, found dozens of little hairs in bed sheets. I am guessing from washing machine? They were all cut up and tiny hairs, very gross. Maybe they should clean the dryer filter? Don't know, but not what you want to find. Also the bathroom could have been cleaner, something nasty on side of tub.

If the housekeeping was better, I would rate 5 stars...unfortunately cleanliness is my top priority!!!

This hotel was great!!! It was extremely clean and we had plenty of space in the two bedroom with full kitchen and living room. The two full baths allowed the five of us to get ready easily. We even had relatives visit and change clothes without being over crowded! From TX and this hotel made our stay pleasant. A worker even delivered my brother a whole plate of cookies while we were out!!!! Staff was great!!!!! The location has plenty of restaurants and stores near, including Walmart and Sam's.
