My husband and I were visiting our grandkids who live in Springfield, (under 30 mins from Dayton)...I chose this hotel because of the indoor pool, large suites, free breakfast, and other nice perks that they offer..Our check in went very well; the front desk rep and manager were very welcoming to us, I would rate them a sold 5 stars for customer service on arrival.
The location of this hotel is great if you are traveling by air... The drive from the airport was under 15 minutes. Another great feature about the location is the proximity to restaurants, Walmart, etc..all within walking distance and there is a good variety of places to dine, with Golden Corral being directly across the street, and Red Lobster next door. (4 out of 5)
The quality of our large suite was very good (4 out of 5 stars)..very clean, spacious, small kitchen with microwave, small refrigerator, and 2 large flat screen tvs. great for a family of 4-6, however the sofa beds are Horrible! The grandkids had the two double beds in a separate room, and the 2nd night I had to share the bed with my grand-daughter..I just could not sleep on that sofa bed another night, I felt every spring in that bed, and the mattress was stained, the extra blankets were thin and cheap!..My husband barely got thru it..the S-beds need upgrading and so does the linen for the beds...It was a cold weekend, but heating in the suites worked very well,..There are no toiletries in the bathroom, like you find in large chain hotels, so definitely bring your own cosmetics. (3.9 out of 5)
Free Breakfast...This is a hit or miss, depending on your needs..The kids were fine with it. They ate plenty! The menu was the same for both days, (french toast, sausage, eggs, biscuits, waffle maker) and the usual continential, cereals, bagels, muffins, juices, yogurts, etc..No one really complained, and how could you, it was free, but I think they could change breakfast meat & french toast, or at least alternate days with bacon, and pancakes, otherwise it was fine..(3.9 stars out of 5)
In the evenings the hotel offers free cocktails, hotdogs, tacos, soft drink beverages and popcorn to guests..This is a plus for families, especially if your on a budget, or don't feel like venturing out to a restaurant. (3.9 out of 5)
Indoor/Outdoor Pool - this area I rate a 3 out of 5, due to the size of the pool with the ratio of guests including children that it accomodates - very very small.. a portion of the pool is cut off in the winter months, although u have the option of using the outdoor portion, but when its cut off like that, its extremely small..On both Fri and Sat night it was so crowded with kids, adults that may want to swim with their kids, are at a disadvantage here. Even the hot tub was running over with kids! From what I could see, using the pool during the early part of the day is best..Our grandkids loved it, but of course they would, their kids. (3 out of 5)
This hotel lacks big chain amenities such as a ATM machine, gift shop and restaurant/bar...It does offer free WiFi and use of 2 computers next to the check in area for email access or to print boarding passes.. However, there are several places in the area within walking distance to ATM machines..
Overall we had a good stay....Choosing this hotel out 10+ that we reviewed online was not a bad choice..We normally travel without kids, so we were looking for certain features and the Drury had what we were looking for..We consider ourselves moderate travelers, luxury accomodations are not required, we can actually do without it...Would we stay here again?, Yes, but only during the winter months when we visit... I can't imagine staying here in the summer..This hotel attracts a lot of families, and the hotel pool is just way too small for us, and I really hope they change their sofa beds, that could make or break our next stay there (Yes, the bed is that bad)...Overall rating 3.9 out of 5....
