This museum is quite unimposing from the outside. Once you are in the comfortable low lighting of the first hangar it is a visual feast for aeronautical aficionados. Over two hundred and fifty aircraft are hung from the rafters, ensconced in dioramas or in static floor displays. The accompanying documentation is very good. The museum is divided into historical periods and each is rich in detail and supporting material. It is the most amazing aircraft museum in North America no doubt.
The Presidential fleet is currently in an off site hangar. You can book a seat on a bus (3-4 a day only) but do it early in the day as they fill up.
On Friday afternoons, you can also do a Behind the Scenes tour in the five restoration hangars. Again book it when you arrive as there is only one bus. It is impressive to see the incredible effort and innovation required to bring these birds back to life.
Even the cafeteria is reasonably priced and decent. Overall this is a fine and memorable institution. I loved it.
