This museum is quite unimposing from the outside. Once you are in the comfortable low lighting of the first hangar it is a visual feast for aeronautical aficionados. Over two hundred and fifty aircraft are hung from the rafters, ensconced in dioramas or in static floor displays. The accompanying documentation is very good. The museum is divided into historical periods and each is rich in detail and supporting material. It is the most amazing aircraft museum in North America no doubt.

The Presidential fleet is currently in an off site hangar. You can book a seat on a bus (3-4 a day only) but do it early in the day as they fill up.

On Friday afternoons, you can also do a Behind the Scenes tour in the five restoration hangars. Again book it when you arrive as there is only one bus. It is impressive to see the incredible effort and innovation required to bring these birds back to life.

Even the cafeteria is reasonably priced and decent. Overall this is a fine and memorable institution. I loved it.

“Number one attraction”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

This wonderful museum traces the history of aviation from the Wright brothers who built their planes in their home town of Dayton, Ohio to modern airplanes. There are many planes showing military history. An exhibit that is getting a lot of attention is the hanger with presidential planes and some experimental planes since the plane that carried JFK's body back from Dallas is part of the display. The Presidential hanger needs a short bus ride so tours are limited to several times a day to this area and it is first come, first served. Since the museum is supported by our taxes, admission to all displays are FREE.

“biggest museum in the area”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

People come from all over the world to see the exhibits here. It starts with the invention of flight and ends with the modern day era of airplanes. It is well worth it because you can get in free. The I max theater always has great selection to see as well.

“Phenominal collection of memorabilia!!”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Living relatively near this museum, we continue to return yearly since there is so much to see and do. Inevitably there is a new display or some other item which we have not yet seen. If in the area, do not miss this!!

“Historical Wonderland”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

If you enjoy aviation, world history, or military history, you will immediately fall in love with this museum. Bring the entire family and plan on spending at least one full day. The complex also includes a theater, an extensive gift shop, and a food court. Since Ohio is the birth place of aviation, there are many other interesting sites in the Dayton area that include the original bike shop of Orville and Wilbur Wright.
