“big high-brow hotel with little personal attitude”
Reviewed 1 August 2010

My husband and me were looking forward to staying at this famous hotel but ended up somewhat disappointed. We tried to get a food service to the room at about 11p, and nobody answered - we called at least 3 times. The breakfast was not included, either. The staff was very cold - the girls at the reception where kind of seizing us up with their glances. I hate to say but I did feel this place was only for someone with big bucks.

My husband and I were thrilled to find a historic hotel that was pet friendly, and not only are they pet friendly they go out of their way, adding touches to the room, such as a dog bed and room service menu for dogs to make sure your pooch is made to feel welcome. Denise, the pet concierge was wonderful, staying in touch with me before we arrived and following up aftrewards. Denise arranged a pet sitter, Joan (who I highly recommend) while my husband and I attended a wedding.

The staff, particularly the food service were very disappointing. We waited 15 minutes, once seated, on our first evening just for a server to take our drink order. The Food and Beverage Manager was making his rounds through the bar greeting guests, but knowing we were unhappy made a point of not coming over to our table. He also recognized us the following morning at breakfast, stopping at the other table of guests to check on their brekafast, but completely by-passing us.

The room was small, but cozy and was just enough space for my husband, myself and our dog. I would stay there again and recommend the hotel, but there are several restaurants in the downtown area that it is worth going to dine out, instead of having to deal with the poor food service.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Bethlehem. It is a great historic hotel in a great location. We took advantage of the spa package which was well worth it. The rooms are very nice and the bathrooms are tastefully updated with marble and classy fixtures that fit the era of the hotel. The bar is very nice and the staff helpful. Bethlehem is a nice place to visit all year round, quaint shops, good restaurants and a nice casino. I would definitely recommend this hotel to people staying in the area.

I will admit that the outside of Hotel Bethlehem (the back view at least) left me a little frightened. Once we went inside however, it turned our to be a nicely restored, charming old hotel. The rooms are not large - it is old after all, but they are suitable. The bathroom is small but has been remodeled well. Bath products are Bath & Body Works so no complaints there. The walls are thin - we could hear our neighbor's radio but they soon turned it off. The main draw of the Hotel Bethlehem is its charm and location. The lobby is perfect and the location is right in the middle of downtown Bethlehem. There's a great bagel place across the street for breakfast where everyone was super friendly. We didn't have much interaction with staff at the hotel but everyone appeared willing to help. Parking was a little limited and I can imagine it would be a problem if the hotel were at capacity. The parking is free though which is always a nice treat for travelers. Overall, I thought it was a very cute, quaint hotel. There are some areas of improvement that could be made (size of baths and noise levels) but those things typically come along with older hotels. The location is great and I would still recommend Hotel Bethlehem.

-Room was big, clean, remember it's an old, historic hotel, so not what some folks look for
-Bathroom was small, but charming & clean
-Elevators not as slow as everyone says, never really noticed it
-Front desk check in girl was rude
-Waiter at breakfast was neither warm or friendly, not even a smile or good morning. (The french toast w/strawberries, bananas & almonds was the sooooo good)
-Walked to Mama Ninas for dinner, about a block away, food was awesome! Fantastic!
-Personally thought the staff could've been alot friendlier.
-Looks like alot of stores on Main St were closed/out of business. Not much to do or see in that respect, but we went to the Sands to gamble.
