My wife and I decided to celebrate our valentine's dinner with another friend couple of ours. We decided to go to Molinari's and was not disappointed.
I called the restaurant a week or so before Feb 14 and requested a table for 4 at 6:30 PM. There was no issue getting the table and I was also told that we can order flowers in advance if we want and they would put them on the table for our dinner. There were three options - 2 roses, 1/2 dozen roses in a vase and a dozen roses in a vase. I don't exactly remember all the prices but I think the 1/2 dozen roses I ordered was $45 or so. This was really convenient since it was a nice surprise for the wives and also saved us time and the hassle of getting them ourselves.
On the day of the dinner we were there at the restaurant a couple minutes before 6:30. We were directed to our table right away. The restaurant was moderately occupied and hence felt pretty relaxing rather than if it would have been full with more guests waiting. Our waiter arrived right away to take the drinks order. We wanted him to recommend a good wine. He was very patient in getting the feedback from the bartender and explain the different wines. We wanted something close to a Cabernet and were given a few samples of different wines. We finally decided on one and ordered a bottle. Throughout the process, we never felt the waiter getting impatient or anything.
We were then told about the night's specials with a detailed explanation of each of the dishes. We ordered the appetizers and kept the entrée order for later once the appetizers arrived, since we wanted to have a long and relaxed dinner. The appetizers were delicious. The night's special was an orangetini or something of that sort which was fried mozzarella balls with a slight orange touch and other condiments. Not just mozzarella sticks in the shape of balls but much tastier. We also got marinated olives and Burrata and both were excellent.
We ordered Semolina Orecchiette, Procini Canestri, Pinenut-crusted Salmon and a custom pasta dish. Thought the custom pasta option was not there on the menu, the waiter was happy to accommodate our request. Only issue was that he kept forgetting the ingredients we requested. He was not noting down the orders anywhere and instead trying to remember them. In this process, as we guessed the custom pasta was not exactly what we ordered but that was not a deal breaker. This was actually the case right from the beginning. He kept forgetting or getting confused as to what we were ordering since there were four of us and multiple dishes. But most of them came out right. This is the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
We also ordered a few desserts and the pound cake was fresh and delicious. Overall, we had a very good time. Best part was that we spent more than 2 hrs and never felt that the staff was waiting for us to leave. The total bill came to slightly over $250 including tip and the flowers but it was worth it.
