We have been coming to Mammoth for over 30 years and have eaten at most of the restaurants multiple times. Lakefront has always been good, but with the new chef and his new approach to the menu the food is very good to excellent. In looking at the trip advisor reviews for Mammoth restaurants it seems a lot of them are reviewing happy hours and value for big parties. If you want gourmet food and don't mind paying for it this is the place.

While the ambiance was pleasant, rustic and cozy, the food was hugely overpriced (I had red elk strip steak for $36) and not too interesting, and portions that were rather small. For instance, the elk strip steak was about 4 ounces, maybe less. The tastes were strictly OK to boring and bland. The others had duck breast and salmon. Same deal as what I ordered: expensive, uninteresting and small. The menu consisted of about a half dozen choices of entrees, about the same number of appetizers.
The wine list was overpriced, really overpriced. The service OK, but just OK. The service and style of the waitress was just a tad better than would be expected in a diner. But, hey, this is the boonies, and Mammoth is unlikely to have skilled waitstaff, and allowances have to be made for this. So I really don't have any quibble with the service.
The bottom line is that this is a pretentious place, with high costs, small portions of uninventive, bland food, from a small and limited menu. There are far better, cheaper, places in town that have equally agreeable ambulance and service, as well as larger menus and appropriately sized portions.

New chef this year, the menu has changed a bit (no more wild boar). I enjoyed a mouthwatering filet mignon cooked to perfection. The server was friendly and accommodating. For dessert I savored a delicious homemade apricot sorbet. We visit here every year and are never disappointed.

Had a very nice lunch on the deck. Beautiful lake view and the lunch was very good. I had the trout and it was perfect. The parsnip soup was the star as it was the best soup I have ever enjoyed. 5 stars but note the setting is simple and casual , but so were the prices and the service was top notch.

The food we had was excellent, the FULTON FARMS ORGANIC CHICKEN and the trout special. The gazpacho was also wonderful.
