Dinner on Sunday night in July did not require a reservation. Food was very good. They did not have the duck I ordered and were honest that the chef felt that the duck they had was not going to be adequate. Large wine list. Service was informal and attentive.

We went in with a large group on this past Saturday night. I'd eaten at Petras twice before, but always solo at the bar. The meal was wonderful - duck confit app a true highlight of the first course, as well as the special goat cheese stuffed peppers. For an my entree I selected the cod special, which was very good, but was trumped by the sea scallops and the pork chop that my friends allowed me to sample. Jonathan our server was attentive and kept things moving - all around this was an excellent experience. The wine list is an added bonus as it's very thorough in price ranges and regional choices.

i am not sure why when i am in mammoth and going out, i just do not go out here every night. for my palate, this is the best restaurant that i have been to in mammoth. the caprese salad had flavorful tomatoes, lovely composition, reasonable mozzarella, and a nice balsamic reduction. i have certainly had better duck confits; while palatable, i personally like a crispier skin. the duck breast dish was really quite lovely; not over cooked but the fat below the skin surface had been nicely rendered down. the flourless chocolate torte/cake was the only losing item on the menu, and i personally would not recommend;but other than that a nice meal.... especially for mammoth.

This place was recommended by several locals as being their favorite restaurant in town. Unfortunately, we didn't have a great experience. First, we got seated in a back room area with no windows. Very dark and nothing to look at but nearly blank walls. The server was friendly and informative, but the food was so-so. The mushroom soup looked like mud and didn't taste much better. The entrees of salmon and chicken weren't bad, but not as outstanding as you'd expect at a restaurant of this caliber and reputation. The quinoa served with the salmon was sitting in liquid and had no flavor. Also, I thought the dishes were overpriced. We'll have to find another place to eat on our next visit to Mammoth.

This may be the best restaurant for multiple tasty fish selections in Mammoth. They also have great choices for other tastes as well. The wine list, both by glass and bottle, is good. Prices are moderately high (roughly the $20 to $30 range per dinner entree) but worth it. (My higher rated choices are more expensive; including Restaurant at Convict Lake which I did not visit this year.) And the semi-hunting-lodging decor of Petras works for Mammoth. If not for sometimes being a little heavy with the salt, along with being a bit too rustic, this would warrant an excellent rating.
