“WE LOVE THIS HOTEL.............”
Reviewed 31 March 2011

The Mammoth Mountain Inn is our favorite hotel in Mammoth. ALL OF THE STAFF goes the extra mile to make sure your visit is great (Corey, Casey, Adam, Scott, Becka, Kevin, Stepahnie, Curtis, Paula, Zach just to name a few). Staff makes a point of remembering guest names and their favorite rooms. We have seen staff at all levels interact with guests so we know it is not just us. The rooms are clean and you can request a refrigerator and or microwave if needed. Jette, the Hotel Manager has put together a great team and she even comes out and interacts with guests.

Features we love: We love the ski in/ski out feature...your skis are out on the mountain in the morning for you to pick up at your leisure...you don't have to schlep them out. The view of the mountain from the Dry Creek Bar is just spectacular....not to mention they make a tasty bloody mary. Teh restaurant is open for lunch and dinner; the bar serves lunch and appetizers; you can also have dinner in the bar. Underground parking is a plus.

It is a pet freindly hotel; for a nomimal fee you can bring your pooch (we bring our Samoyed Misho) who is treated like royalty.

They also have convenient airport pick up/drop off service and a hotel shuttle (in addition to the Mammoth Moutain Bus) takes takes you into town and picks you up.

The snow cat Parallax Dinner is very nice which operates on weekends.

You can read a great book in front of their cozy fireplace or play one of their board games.

We just can't say enough great things about this hotel and its staff. it is like our home away from home. We highly recommend this place for a wonderful stay.

Ran out of toilet paper, no extra roll. When was the last time that that happened to you at a hotel, motel or inn? ATM machine in the lobby charged $3.95. The $15+ breakfast buffet = the impossible to find in California horrible food. Mammoth is a corporate town; most all of the employees live in company lodging which is subject to authorized inspections of their private rooms. This sets the stage for employee dis-trust for who they work for. Mammoth is a great ski resort, I'd like to go back, the employee's just need better managers..in the meantime they need clearer channels of communication with those managers and owners that they now have.

Room Tip: Walls are thin.

I've wanted to try the Mammoth Mountain Inn for years but it's always suffered poor reviews. We usually stay at a condo near the Village and schlep around in the bus system. We decided to give the Inn a try due to its superb location; particularly since we have an 8 year old.

We booked the Deluxe Loft and loved it. Located in the main part of the hotel, it had the best beds, pillows and bath towels! The curtains were nice and thick making the room really dark - good for sleeping in a bit. We really enjoyed having an "upstairs room" for our son. The view was magnificent. The hotel itself looked in pretty good shape - really, you need to set your expectations appropriately when a hotel allows hundreds of people to walk through it with their ski boots on. How good can one expect the carpet and furniture to be? The food and service were typical of any ski resort - a little over priced and the staff weren't in a real hurry. Since we were on vacation, who cares really. Relax! The hotel really encourages relaxation with comfy chairs and couches located throughout common areas. Great for a fireside drink, reading, playing on your iPad, whatever.

There was a great coffee shop in the hotel (cheap refills), a rental shop (super convenient) and a ski valet (didn't carry my skis once). My son used the heated pool and we all enjoyed the jacuzzi (indoor and outdoor). We also appreciated the roundtrip airport transportation and the great driver with the really nice shuttle bus that took us into town whenever and wherever we wanted to go. Free!

The only thing I think was over-stated on the website was the "state of the art" game room. Come on guys. State of the Art? Not so much. But would we stay again? Absolutely.

Spent 5 days here. Restaurant was horrible, food was OK, the service was not only slow and infrequent, it was just plain odd. Ordered appetizers and salad starters, it all showed up with the main and when I asked about it, the staff were like "whats the big deal". Flight arrived at 10:40AM and knowing I was coming in early I requested an early check in or I would purchase an extra day because I have young kids and did not want to wait till 3:30 - 4PM in the lobby, I was told they would have VIP early check in for me and could have a room around 2PM. Well, I got my room at 4PM. Tried to get our rental gear in the shop within the hotel, the staff was put out having to size my kids and prep their gear the day before (it was 3PM). Had the worst dinner ever at the Yodler, the staff were pre-oocupied with ski bunnies that it took 20 minutes or get a beer. It all sounds so petty, but there was an entire accumulation of little things that were so odd and moronic that the frustration level was at an all time high with me. I do not expect much at Ski Resort facilities however this was so bad I would rather stay in the village and walk or bus the ski hill.

The Mammoth Mountain Inn was the worst accomodations I've ever had at a ski resort, and I've stayed at many, many ski resorts.

The hallway was poorly lit with a dirty carpet. There was a grey food service tray stacked with with dirty dishes in the hallway, and it stayed there all week. Plaster that had crumbled off the walls or ceiling also lay in heaps on the carpet all week. It took 15 swipes before the key card would open the door - that's after I asked for a new card. The place looked like a very old college dormitory that was scheduled for demolition.

It's right on the mountain, so it gets two stars for that. Otherwise, it was terrible.

Dear TopSkier

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on your recent stay at the Mammoth Mountain Inn.

Indeed we are working on upgrading the hallways and the accomodations. This year we replaced our beds, installed flat screen TVs and new furniture throughout the suites. We also upgraded our bathrooms. We are hoping to move towards the hallways this summer.

I stayed here the week between Christmas and New Year's with my husband, 2 children and parents. We had the 2 bedroom condo in one of the annex buildings.

Pros: The condo was large and definately spacious enough for the 6 of us. There was plenty of closet space and 2 bathrooms. We had good views out the windows. The best part was that it was just through the building and across the driveway to get to Woolyworld (?) where the children's ski rentals and lessons are. It was worth the extra money to not have to schlep my children into cars/buses and through parking lots. There is also a pool and 3 hot tubs. Staff were friendly. There is a ski rental right in the main building of the inn, although the line was long in the morning.

Cons: The condo definately needs renovation. The furniture and carpeting were worn and the floor was warped. The outside deck was dismantled.

In sum, it is definately overpriced if you don't have a need to be right at the children's ski school or main lodge. But if convenience is important to you, then this is a great choice.

The Good:
Great location with the gondola and ski lifts right outside of the main entrance.
On site child care.
Housekeeping staff was great and kept our room super clean.
All interaction with Inn staff was positive.
Covered parking.
Comfortable bed.
Ski Valet. Nice to have our skiis waiting for us by the lifts.
The Bad:
Thin walls and noisy neighbors. We were in the West Annex.
High resort fee. $20/day.
Stuck closet door made it hard to put things into the closet.
Poor lighting in the room. One of the lamps had a burned out bulb.

We would probably stay here again just because of the closeness to the ski gondola and lifts. Also being able to drop off my son in the morning at the on site child care was a big reason why we stayed here. All staff we had interactions with were great.
