Rafters has been a Mammoth Lakes classic for decades, and we wish we could give it an unqualified thumbs up. From service to food, the quality was inconsistent. The wait staff was friendly, but follow through needs improvement - and this was not a busy evening. It took four requests to finally get the fireplace lit. Food varied from very good on down. French fries were served at room temperature and overly crisp. Hamburgers were served at a 'doneness' that varied from that requested. The scallops appetizer had a delicious sauce, but was also served at room temperature with the inside almost raw. The grilled caesar was done to a black char on one side rather than a crisp grill. Our party of four was not totally pleased with our overall experience. We're afraid that Rafters falls prey to 'resort fever', where no one is that attuned to each and every diner's experience because the customers are transient. Too bad.
