“Who says Americans can't cook”
Reviewed 29 July 2013 via mobile

Waw, it is located a little bit out of town, but it is definately worthed and if there was no tripadvisor we wouldn't have found this wonderful place.
In the bar you can have the full restaurant menu, but also pizza of the children like that. We ate brie en croute, which is only a starter but was big enough for A main course. It was a cullinairy surprise. Americans can cook a great meal after all, the convict lake cook proves it. Be sure you make a little walk to the convict lake. It is marvelleous.

“Dinner”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

Well, I originally reviewed a menu that didn't have prices. My mistake. Make sure you look at the prices. Perceived value is subjective. I had high expectations as protein entrees were mostly priced in the mid-thirty dollar range. The service was very attentive but the food was disappointing. One of our group had the vegetarian option that included Portobello mushrooms. The texture of the mushrooms was rubbery. Not sure how they were prepared but they weren't grilled or seared. I chose Caesar salad, cream of potato leek soup, and goat cheese stuffed ravioli. The soup was excellent. While the Caesar was nicely prepared, there was no anchovy taste to the dressing. I realize that not all Caesars use anchovies but unless someone tells you otherwise, you would expect it, especially at a finer dining establishment. The raviolis were tasty but tough. I was relatively full so while I would have loved to have the Bananas Foster for dessert as it was flambeed table side, $15 was just a little more than I wanted to spend. Again, the service was attentive and the setting cozy but the food was a disappointment for the price.

“A Wonderful Evening”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

Our party of seven enjoyed a wonderful evening hosted and superbly served by Neal. Appetizers, entrees (steaks, lamb, salmon) all very good to excellent, and the Bananas Foster dessert was served with panache. Corkage is steep ($20) but worth pairing special libations with the victuals. While sipping cocktails Neal pointed out a couple of locals, a doe and her offspring, walking towards the large window where we were seated. They hung around for a while, then mozied off. Convict Lake is postcard spectacular and the restaurant, while pricey, makes for a great special occasion or destination dining experience.

“Beautiful setting”
Reviewed 16 July 2013

We were in Mammoth for the jazz jubilee in July. For a special treat for our hosts, we booked dinner at Convict Lake. We came early enough to walk down to the lake and take pictures of the magnificent mountains. When we got to the restaurant, we discovered a wedding reception in progress. It didn't seem to interfere with our meal service. It was in a huge tent outside the restaurant. We sat in the bar and had a martini (which they are famous for) while our window table was readied. Service was good, wine was good, meal was good. I had the duck, which was good, but not outstanding. My companions split the rack of lamb, which they enjoyed. Prices are a bit high, but appropriate for the meal and service.

“Surprise at Convict Lake”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

I would not have suspected that a restaurant of this caliber would be found at this off-beat location, but alas, voila!
This is a top flight restaurant, with full attached lounge and an exquisite menu featuring local Alpers Trout, Beef Wellington and Bananas Foster, among others.
We have dined here annually for the last seven years and still love the place. This restaurant could hold it's own in S.F. I've read the more negative reviews and am sorry that those reviewers were in a situation that precluded them from as satisfying an experience as we. I'd recommend giving it another shot, and make reservations first.
