If you like lighthouses-this is one to see. I have planned to see this for four years after I found its website. It sits on a bluff in the center of Fort Casey on Whidbey Island. The lighthouse, is staffed by friendly, knowledgeable volunteers, who also expertly maintain it. They keep it in pristine shape as a treasure of the state of Washington. Just below the lighthouse are the retractable cannons of the fort. Visitors are free to wander the parapets, the command center, and enjoy the view of the waterways. Deer graze near the lighthouse, and are not intimidated by people (I saw kids and dogs within 5 feet of two of them.) Visitors travel thourgh the fort grounds on the way to the lighthouse. The scenery between Coupeville and Fort Casey is beautiful to breathtaking (at least if you're a city boy from the midwest as I am).

...that there was this wonderful state park on Whidbey Island! I also had no idea that there were forts and gun emplacements and bunkers that could be explored! We originally were going to visit Fort Casey State Park because my wife loves seeing lighthouses. Our 20-something boys acted more like 10 year old boys climbing on the guns and exploring the bunkers!! The lighthouse was ok, but the fort was the real gem. All of Whidbey Island was a great experience, highlighted by Fort Casey and the Mukilteo Ferry. Take this day trip from Seattle and enjoy everything from Deception Pass to Fort Casey and more!

Ft. Casey is so much more interesting and expansive than I thought it would be! We ended up staying here 2 1/2 hours, wandering by huge gun batteries, going through extensive bunkers and climbing the lighthouse (open 11-5). We spent some time exploring the rocky beach too. Kids will have a ball here! There are several bathrooms but no food, so don't come hungry. The place is very uncommercialized - I think they should charge a couple of dollars for entry and use the money to put up some plaques with info on them, since we didn't always know what we were looking at. Some of the bunkers are dark; bring a flashlight for some extra fun. A small herd of deer seemed right at home here.

We went to Fort Casey State Park today. It's a beautiful park. We climbed the fort and went inside the lighthouse. It's a great place for kids to run around. We also saw some deers near the entrance of the park.

We planned for a day trip to Whidbey island last week taking advantage of the beautiful sun.The drive to Deception pass is pretty easy and nice.We passed by views of skagit valley flower town, mountains, Farms. We started our trip with deception pass( so that we could finish the major driving part ) ...Our first stop was the bridge over deception pass and a few view points. The bridge is very beautiful...you can take some pics and also trek down to the beach...but we decided against it. We then drove to Oak Harbour. Its a pretty small town. They had some beer tasting at a Beer shop which was kinda ok, but the shop features some good collection of beer, wines. Our next stop was Coupeville where we had lunch at Kim's which is located on the wharf. We had a great lunch sitting on the benches and the food was exceptionally good. This place was a surprise package(definately try the vietnamese sandwich and thai ). From coupeville we headed to Admirality Head Lighthouse. The fort was nice and fun activity for kids and elders. But the view from the fort was breathtaking....It was sooo relaxing to sit at the beach n enjoy the view. The Lighthouse is pretty small but nice view from here too.Only thing it was closed so could not see it from the inside. From here we headed to Langley...I was expecting a lil more from this town...It was Sat around 5:30 ish when we reached langley and It was sooo dead n everything was closed. At last we found a cafe to have coffee. Coffee here was nice.We then headed to take the Mukilteo ferry....I was thrilled to see how organised it was.It was so convenient and we just had to pay $7 for our car + 4 of us. So here is the saver tip: take the ferry back to mukilteo save money as well as relax n get the ride back.
