A perfect place to stay in downtown Philadelphia! I hope to stay here again!
I stayed at this hotel for four nights while vacationing with my wife. It fits the DoubleTree mould for a downtown location pretty well. No surprises. The best feature is the location. If all you want to do in Philly is the historic part of town, you can stay closer but this hotel is well located if you want to see all Philly has to offer. It is immediately on the subway line which is not clear from online maps. There is a station entrance for the Walnut-Locust stop literally outside the door. The only way it could be closer was if the hotel had direct access on the sub-levels. Despite this, we generally walked as the weather was nice. Philly is very walkable. If you head to the sports complex south of town, take the subway.
The hotel room was a "corner" room. This hotel has a lot more than 4 corners on each floor due to the design of the structure. So the "corner" room will have windows looking two different directions, but it may be in the middle of the building. It makes sense when you see it. My point here is don't expect less foot traffic outside your "corner" room door but do expect great views of Philly. I particularly enjoyed sitting on the window ledge (about 18 inches wide) while here. Otherwise, the room was pretty standard for DoubleTree, which is to say a nice room. The bathroom was small. Too small for two people to occupy it at one time.
We wanted to have a mini-fridge in the room and one was provided for a $10 fee. I don't mind the fee, but the fridge was not in very good condition for something I am paying for. It was missing a leg so it wobbled a lot and it looked and sounded like it had fallen off a truck or two. But it kept our drinks cold and that's what we wanted.
We went down to the pool one evening. The pool is OK if a little small. But hey, it's on the 5th floor of a high-rise hotel. The problem is the hot tub. It's not hot. Barely warm. So if you like hot tubs, don't stay here. There is a great deck area for sunning yourself attached to the pool area and I would say that's a bigger draw than the pool.
So what needs improving, you ask? The one and only black eye for this hotel (and it was a big deal to me so I took off an entire star just for this and seriously considered two) was the service staff in the Executive Lounge in the morning. I want to be very specific that the evening staff was great, the morning staff should be fired. For the uninitiated, the Executive Lounge is a perk area on the upper floors for loyal Hilton guests. This hotel provides a small breakfast offering for these guests in the morning. The problem here was that the staff member who worked the lounge during breakfast acted like she hated both her job and the customers she was serving. As this was a pleasure trip and not business, we were not trying to eat breakfast at 6:30 am. At closer to 9:00, we were pushing the end of the breakfast time (which was 9:30). However, by 9:00, the staff member was cleaning up and putting the remaining food away. She made a point to snap at everyone coming in that they were "closing soon". That was the greeting! Not good morning, but, essentially, thanks for coming, now get out. And these are the loyal HHonors members! Not cool. By 9:20, she had that place clean and there was no trace of any food or coffee. Thankfully, the breakfast is not offered on the weekends (2 of our days) so we found better places to get coffee and a snack towards the end of the trip.
So overall, what you have here is a standard DoubleTree with a good design leading to lots of windows for all. If you happen to avoid the mean breakfast lady, you'll have a great time. If not, say hi for me and make sure to set your alarm.
Thank you for taking the time to write a very detailed review of your recent stay with us at the Doubletree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City. I am pleased that you had made mention to our great location-we are very centrally located in the heart of the city. Philadelphia is very walkable and what I like to tell guests you can always take public transportation or a cab back if you walked there and are now tired from a long day of sightseeing.
The way the hotel was designed does offer many corners and it was done that way to offer many corner rooms giving many views. I was recently traveling to another city and I too sat on the window ledge. It's something I would have never thought to do, but it was great to watch what was going on outside!
You had addressed many other points that I will address with the appropriate department heads-we want all our guests to feel special while they are here and have the most enjoyable time with us. It is the small things that do make the difference.
My hopes are that if your travels bring you back to Philadelphia that you do choose to come and stay with us again at the Doubletree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City.
I stayed here for 4th of July weekend in Philly. The central location is great. I was able to get around town walking to South St., art museums, Penn's Landing. The room itself was comfortable, but the hotel overall is noisy. Voices carry in the hallway and through thin walls. I found it odd that a soda vending machine was right outside my door. I wrote management suggesting they house the vending machine in a dedicated room. Not standing in the hallway where I get to hear each and every transaction. Sodas were only $1, so it got a lot of action!
Still it was a great weekend of parades, fireworks and Philly soul music. Great city!
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us at the Doubletree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City. I hope you enjoyed celebrating the 4th in a city so rich in history.
I do apologize for the noises that throughout the hotel. We do try our best to limit the noise through the hotel-some times it can be unavoidable. I do appreciate your suggestion of keeping the ice/soda machines in a seperate room-it is something that I might have to look further into.
I hope you come back to see us again at the Doubletree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City.
My son Matt and his wife Melissa had their wedding reception at the Doubletree Symphony Ballroom on Saturday July 23, 2011. I was absolutely and totally impressed with the entire day. The cocktail hour was beautiful and the food and drinks were great. The reception room looked beautiful and we had such a wonderful time. The staff was the best anywhere and so accomodating and just so nice. We loved every moment of our weekend there. Many of our guests were from out of town; therefore, many stayed for the weekend. They loved their rooms, the dining room and of course, the wedding itself. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, you will absolutely love it just like we did. Lisa, the wedding planner, by the way, was the best ever, sweet, professional, lovely and treated everyone with grace. Thank you Doubletree from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely, Kathy Badowski
Congratulations to you, your son and his bride from all of us at the Doubletree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City. I am very pleased that the whole weekend was a success! We work very hard to make all of our events special especially weddings-they are such a wonderful event.
I hope if your travels find you in Philadelphia again that you will come back to visit the Doubletree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City.
My wife and I stayed at the Doubletree City Center in mid-July 2011. We were in town for the U2 concert. I'm a Hilton Diamond member so I usually try to stay at a Hilton property. I selected this hotel due to location. It is right in the heart of the theater district and walking distance to the Old City, multiple train stations, shopping and restaurants. The hotel is older and needs to be updated. The executive lounge is only open from Monday-Thursday. You are able to get water and sodas from the executive lounge from Friday-Sunday. The front desk staff was very friendly and allowed us to get multiple cookies which was great. The restaurant staff on the 2nd floor was slow and not very responsive. We ate breakfast on the 2nd floor during the stay. The food was so-so and they required you to pay extra if you wanted the hot breakfast option. Some Doubletree hotels I have stayed at did not require this due to being a Diamond member. The parking is $25/day which is quite steep. The room was average and outdated. The room was clean. We stayed on the 24th floor and it was quiet. I recommend this hotel for its location. That is primary reason we stayed at this place.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us at the Doubletree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City. I hope that you had enjoyed the concert.
I was disappointed that you felt our hotel was outdated. We are constantly upgrading and making improvements to the hotel-both the lobby and public spaces. We had completed a total room renovation back in May of 2009 our lobby (along with the amazing chandelier) was completed during the current year and our second floor lobby was refurbished this past April. We also have many more improvements coming our way in the next year. I would hope that when you return to Philadelphia you will come back to see them.
I am sorry to have learned that your stay was only so-so. I will be taking your comments (both positive and negative) and forwarding them to the various departments you had mentioned-Front Desk, Housekeeping and Restaurant.
Again, thank you for taking the time to post a review and hope that if you do return to Philadelphia for another concert you will chose to stay with us.
We have stayed here several times and its always good. Hotel generally clean, nice decor, everything always works, staff is nice, location is extremely convenient (for us anyway).
Most recently our neighbors were being completely ridiculous having a gigantic party in the room next to us and it was terribly noisey. We went downstairs to complain and before we even finished the sentance "do you mind moving our room" the guy was putting our new room keys in front of us. We even got upgraded to a better room.
I feel like people who read this one tripadvisor are like me, i go on vacation, i pay my $, and i just want simple good service, no hassle, and thats exactly what i got, no big deal. We will probably stay at this double tree every time in phily from now on.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us at the Doubletree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City.
I do apologize for the inconvenience you had experienced during your recent stay, but very relieved that the resolution was quick and exactly what you needed and an upgrade is always nice!
Looking forward to having you as our guest at the Doubletree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City next time you are in town.
