“THE place to stay in Philadelphia”
Reviewed 28 May 2011

My wife and I spent the night here when we were doing some sightseeing on a stopover on the way down to DC. What a great find! Very friendly staff, great rooms (very large for what one expects in a city-center hotel in a large metropolitan area like this, and it included a seating area and fridge), good location. They even offer wine and cheese in the evenings. The staff were very kind. We came back after a late dinner and I was craving a glass of milk for some cookies we'd bought, and the fellow at the desk very kindly went to the kitchen and got some. (He could quite reasonably have said, 'Sorry, kitchen's closed!') They also do a free continental breakfast delivered to the room.

Parking isn't free, but it's near the hotel and they do validate, so it ended up being quite reasonable.

We will definitely stay here should we find ourselves in Philadelphia again.

Went into the city to see a show recently and my 3 girlfriend's and we were very pleased with the Independent. All the staff we encountered were very informative and friendly. There are many great restaurants ( Valanni is just 1 block away and had yummy tapas and drinks) and late night spots open! The room was perfect for us 4 and had tons of character. Overall, we had a very nice stay here and would book again if in the city.

This is not a high-end hotel but it was perfect for us. The room was architecturally interesting (in an old, converted space), conveniently located to restaurants and various neighborhoods, well kept, and reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Keystone buffs will appreciate the bathroom in 207

Keystone Buffs definitely would appreciate the uniqueness of The Independent brick exposed bathrooms! Just another part of our Charm.

We just celebrated our 3 year Anniversary June 22, 2011 - still steering from our Newly Renovated Hotel in 2008. We like to think of ourselves as "chic" and a "home away from home" which has best described The Independent by many travelers. Our plush custom Robert Allen bedding, to Sleigh Beds, custom hardwood flooring throughout and the modern amenities like the iHome alarm clocks, 32" LCD HDTV with 115 channel DirecTV and more!

Thank you for choosing The Independent for your recent stay while visiting Philadelphia.

We had a wonderful stay here. The hotel is nicely located within walking distance of shopping and the historical Independence park, and cabs are plentiful if you'd rather get a ride. We had a suite, as well as a room on the 3rd floor. The rooms are clean, well decorated and fresh. The suite had a nice sitting area big enough for us to all congregate around, as well as a murphy bed and upstairs sleeping loft (steep stairs). The staff was very friendly and helpful with making reservations, as well as booking tours and guiding us to sites. The breakfast was meager, and sent to the room each morning. There was a happy hour with wine in the lobby on weekdays. I heard guests on the lower floors complain of noise from the restaurant next door on the weekends, but our room on the 3rd floor was quiet.

Room Tip: Stay on the upper floors. The suite was lovely.

A friend and I stayed here last week for 2 nights. The hotel was just as good as the previous reviewer has said. I would like to add that one of the concierges, Jason, is also a tour guide. He provided such a wealth of information to us which really enhanced our stay. We particularly enjoyed the new Jewish History Museum and The Magic Garden is a mosaic sensation! If you're a music fan seek out Johnny Brenda's in Fishtown; great venue with a nice bar downstairs where you can eat first. I would also highly recommend the Sampan restaurant for Pan-Asian food. Less than 5 mins walk from the Independent. We also enjoyed the opportunity to meet other guests and chat over early evening complimentary wine and cheese. All in all, a great stay.

Jason truly is a wealth of information, so glad you were able to take full advantage of it while visiting Philadelphia! Our wine & cheese happy hour evenings have proven to be such a great time for our guest to mix and mingle too, definitely one of our many value added amenities here at The Independent!

Thank you for such a rave review about your recent stay with us!

What a great place! In addition to the great decorating and space, the staff is fabulous, they have wine & cheese reception every day, and provide complimentary breakfast to your room each morning. Free wireless, comfortable business center, mini fridge and microwave, Direct TV.... so many great amenities in the VERY cool rooms. Loved the location and everything about this place. I travel a LOT for work and have just been converted away from the "big name" hotels. Very easy walk to the Convention Center and Reading Market Terminal as well as one of the Garces restaurants

I surprised my husband with a weekend getaway for his birthday. There's so much to do and the hotel is nearby all the attractions! We went to a show within walking distance of The Independent! Some of the finest restaurants are conviently nearby and not to mention the historical museums within minutes from the hotel. We reserved the king suite and it was beautifully decorated, luxurious and contemporary- he loved it! The windows were absolutely gorgeous! , you will not regret booking with The Independent!

The staff was knowledgeable, accomodating and very friendly! We're going back for a second visit in May!
