Nice spot for a Philadelphia getaway. Felt like a large urban bed and breakfast. Located within walking distance of many attractions, theater, etc. Spent Halloween night here - significant amount of street life but room was quiet. Tall ceilings gave a nice airy feel. Would definitely come back whether business or pleasure.

My wife and I spent 4 nights here in a 'King' room. In british pounds it cost us 110 per night which we feel was very good value. Continental breakfast is served to your room, internet access is free (they have a business centre, so no laptop needed), the location is very good and you get free cheese and wine served each evening between 6.30 and 8. Parking is $15 per day (not bad for a city centre). The staff are excellent too, so we highly recommend this hotel.

The Independent is a cool, hip boutique hotel just off Broad Street in the heart of Philly. The staff is young and eager to help. The rooms are outfitted with top amenities, including flat screen TV and free Wi-Fi. I only had 2 issues, one was the street-level bar, which is not affiliated with the hotel. It empties out around 3am and each night the drunks make a lot of noise screaming when they leave. A room higher up or at rear of hotel might be better. The other issue was the smell in the halls, really musty. It's a clean hotel and only 2 yrs old. Maybe they washed the rugs and didn't air them out. I think they'd be better served by ripping out the hall carpet and going with wood floors as in the rooms. Overall, it would be my go-to pick for a next trip to Philly.

A very small but nice hotel, with very friendly staff. The bed was comfortable and the room big. A few nice things like wine and cheese for aperatif during the early evening, and breakfast is served in the bedroom (choice of cereals, yoghurt, juice etc, nothing hot). Very close to the centre so easy to get around the city which is relatively small.
