“Attractive and Well Located for Historical Attractions”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

This hotel is attractively renovated and the staff was helpful and friendly. You can grab a shuttle for $10 from the airport or a taxi for about $28.50. Going back to the airport was easy by cab, as they are lined up outside. The hotel is walking distance to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and across the street from Reading Terminal Market. We ended up ordering room service late one evening - grilled cheese and fries - which hit the spot. The fitness room is small, clean and not crowded during the week.

A first rate hotel, 2 blocks from city hall and near all the attractions. Not far from the train station and a 20 minute (if no traffic) taxi to the airport. Up to date and modern decor. Lovely clean, well kept room with a very comfortable bed, great TV. Health facility is a full gym! Lots of restaurants nearby. Delightful hotel. Fine service.

Had a nice room on a high floor. A few blocks walk to the historical area and the restaurants and bars although there is a great restaurant in the hotel. Had breakfast there each day and the waiters made changes to the menu just to be nice. Ordered fruit and eggs and they explained they were two meals so I ordered just the eggs. Waiter brought a small bowl of fruit anyway. That's the sort of customer service that will bring me and my friends back on our next trip. Staff in reception area were cheerful and actually made me feel welcomed when making an enquiry. Thank you Loews staff.

From the argumentative reception staff member at the check-in desk, to the aloof valet parking attendants who never answered the phone for car retrieval, to the snarky bar staff in the newly renovated lobby bar, it seems that a "refresh" of the building also meant a non-refresh in service.

Our recent short, weekend stay was peppered with interactions with seemingly inattentive or uncaring hotel personnel. As a frequent guest to this property over the last 6-7 years, we were shocked at how drastic the guest service experience has plummeted in the last year alone. With the opportunity to stay at about a dozen similar "high-quality" properties, we've always chosen Loews for the convenience, the amenities and the superior staff. While the convenience and amenities remain the same, it was the staff experiences that will be heavily considered when next we visit The City of Brotherly Love.

There were a few positives about our stay; the room was excellent and the gym continues to be top notch (ps. the gym's staff was excellent as always). But that's about it.

Very disappointing overall experience.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor

The Loews Hotel is located in downtown Philadelphia, in the Center City area. It is a very nice and comfortable hotel. The rooms are clean and quiet. They have a very nice lobby and bar, as well as a good fitness center. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The hotel is a historical building. I really have nothing negative to say about this hotel. I enjoyed my stay there very much.

The hotel is located about one block from Reading Terminal Market which is an excellent place to go for breakfast or lunch. They have hundreds of food options available from numerous restaurants and vendors, all under one roof. It is sort of like an old world food court, with everything from Philly Cheesesteaks to oysters to Amish food and pretty much anything else you can think of. You can't beat this place for breakfast or lunch. I went every day of my stay for lunch and loved it.

The hotel is also close to City Hall and lots of historical sites. You can walk and explore the area.

For runners, the best place to head to is the Fairmount Park area near the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It is about 2 miles from the hotel. To get to the Philadelphia Museum of Art (which has the famous steps where Rocky was filmed--which you can run up and down-and the Rocky statue), you want to get to Ben Franklin Parkway and take it right to the Museum. There are several ways to get to Ben Franklin Parkway. One way is to head west on Market Street towards 13th St., then continue on N. Juniper St., take a slight left on JFK Blvd, a right on 15th St., left on Arch St., and then head down Ben Franklin Parkway. If you miss a turn, don't worry, just ask how to get to Ben Franklin Parkway. The idea is to get to Ben Franklin Parkway and once you are on that you stay on it until you come to the Museum on your left. The Ben Franklin Parkway is a very wide roadway with great running paths. When you get to the Museum, do go ahead and run up the steps like Rocky did in the movie--when you turn around at the top and face the Center City area you just came from, it is really beautiful. And there are many other runners in this area. In fact, I was at the Museum early (around 6:30 - 7:00 a.m.) every morning I stayed at the Loews, and there were always runners going up and down the steps when I did. So try it--it's a little corny but you'll enjoy it.

Enjoy the Loews and Philly. I did.

Room Tip: Get a high room, away from the elevators, preferably above the 19th floor for the best view.

Thank you for your recent stay at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. We are thrilled you enjoyed our central location, steps from great shopping, dining and of course historic sites. We are happy you appreciated our new lobby bar; it is part of our recent $25 million enhancement project that we recently completed. This is a superb hotel in a good location. Our room was amazing, with every facility and the food in the restaurant is the very best we have encountered, as good as the Ritz in London. We thought overall this hotel provided good value for money. A fantastic experience all round. Philadelphia is a wonderful place to visit.
