“Great little historical hotel in downtown Philly”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

We spent one night at this great little historical hotel near downtown Philly and it was a great experience. Our room was comfortable ,was not overly large nor overly small but was well appointed and not overly expensive. It's a very historical hotel and it's been around for several hundred years, as has been the city of Philadelphia. The breakfast that came with the stay was a fantastic meal in one of the restaurants where they had set out an entire buffet of make your own waffles , fruit cereal ,poached eggs , a variety of breakfast items, all included in your stay.
This was a great experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who's interested in living part of the history of Philadelphia.

Marketed as a boutique hotel in Old City, I wasn't sure what to expect from Penn's View. I wanted to book a room downtown for a special occasion, and I settled on this hotel because it was reasonably priced and offered amenities like a gas fireplace in the room and a jacuzzi tub.

From viewing photos on their website, I was terrified that our room would have flower wallpaper and a comforter straight out of the 1980s. Instead, our queen spa room was tastefully decorated and surprisingly spacious. And even though it was one of those snowy days in early March, it was too hot to use the fireplace. Thankfully, there was a "balcony" that allowed us to let in some chilly air to moderate the temperature.

For the price, this was a good value. There was free street parking overnight (meters started at 8), breakfast included, and we also had a voucher for two drinks at the bar. Things that could have made this place better: a nicer TV (I think we had a 13-inch CRT with 10 channels); better mattress and bedding; and, better coffee. Without those extras, Penn's View is a solid 4 - very nice.

Thank you for your review. The room is called a Premium Queen. Since the guest's stay in March the TVs have been updated and we have always had 30+ channels available. We just want to be transparent and upfront regarding what room amentities are available. Thanks again and we look forward to your future stays in Philadelphia.

As soon as we arrived staff were willing to help us plan our one day visit in Philadelphia. Most of the main attractions are within walking distance, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby to keep you entertained

Went for the weekend to walk around Old City

Location is right next to the highway and loud, kind of expected

Stayed in King "Jacuzzi" room

Not really a Jacuzzi room you would expect- Yes there is a Jacuzzi in the bath, but it is a single person Jacuzzi brand tub in the bathroom- not really a shareable jacuzzi expected

Breakfast was so so

Hotel is clean- but showing its age

My sister and I stayed for one night on a trip to Atlantic City. The room was nicely decorated and clean. Some of the furnishing in the lobby and halls were a bit dated. The service was great. We were lost in the city and called for directions. Antonio stayed on the phone with us guiding us to the hotel. Our meal in the Panorama Restaurant was good although a bit pricey. Would recommend this hotel to others staying in Philadelphia. Very conveniently located to the historic area.

This boutique inn is hidden along the historical area of Old City Philadelphia, just steps from everything. The room we stayed in on 4th floor was spacious and homey; not your typical hotel chain room. The staff was friendly and accommodating with all of our request. If you are looking for a romantic room to spoil your special person look no further. Be sure to check out the wine list, restaurant and daily breakfast.

Beautifully decorated hotel! The staff could not be more accommodating. Bed was very comfortable and the room pleasant and clean. The breakfast was excellent, lots of fruit. Used a cab several times. Desk clerk called for us and they were always there in less than 5 minutes. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the birthplace of our nation! Many thanks.
