I spent two nights in this cozy yet great hostel in Philly. Although I initially had troubles finding it, its location is pretty great and every major "sight" is within walking distance. The staff was superfriendly and always helpful, Clarissa (one of the receptionists) even told me about the Mural Mile Arts Program which apparently not many people know of but it was a great experience and some excellent street art I discovered - thanks again for that!
As for the rooms, the cleanliness was absolutely reasonable and the beds were quite comfortable. Excellent price-value relation!
Overall, highly recommendable hostel, I had a nice time :)

I was here May 2013, to see family & friends & re-mind me of all the history ( as a child you don't appricate it ). Everyone that works here was very very helpful & knows all the in's & outs. Met a lot of nice people at the Hostel, I did thier ghost tour, and our guide was very good.

Extremely well organized and with a helpful staff, this hostel is incredible. We stayed for only one night, but the facilities were in a good condition. The location is awesome - in the old city, close to Market St, full of interesting pubs and historical sites. A+. The stairs are really noisy/squeaky and during the night it might become a problem.

Friendly staff, fun atmosophere, perfect location, clean and affordable. I liked the smart solutions like code locks on doors, the free hot drinks and cereals at weekends, the wifi is strong, fast and covering all the areas. If I come to Philly again, I definitely want to stay here.

First impressions count and the staff here were very friendly, helpful and fun. Did a quirky ghost tour, free breakfast and free dinner certain days. Very well equipped kitchen and everything has been well thought out down to the lights being on timers in the dorms to prevent people switching lights on at 3am. Individual lights on each bunk as well as plugs. Free pc use and free towels, bathroom facilities are ok. The male dorm is 24 bed which it doesn't mention when booking but the bunks are spread out and the lights on a timer makes a difference. Overall very good hostel highly recommend. Also in a great location in Philly

I stayed at this hostel most of the month of March in 2012. I loved it.
I find them efficient and with the best Hostel Model I have ever seen.

I love especially how the rooms are not accessible to anyone who is not on their list of residents. number pads secure not only your room but the stairway to the rooms.

Being a girl, I was staying at the girl's dorm and the couple's dorm depending on demand and thus space. When I was in the couple's room it was couples or single women but never single males. I enjoyed the stay, bathrooms and the couples who had many stories about their travels and plans.

The girl's dorm was spacious and large, allowing efficient and thorough cleaning, which happened daily, and you could stay in your room/ bed. Each bed had a little light on the wall for you to read from and an abundance of outlets for your computer battery or phone charger.

The rooms had ample lockers and the bathrooms en suite to those large rooms had several stalls to use and shower stalls and sinks, so I never waited for a toilet or to shower. Like in girl's camp though you take turns and go after other people if more than 4 people are going to shower at a time.

Downstairs in the lobby area, the outside door is also number pad or electronic doorman operated from the front desk after hours (11pm? ) .

The area is safe, I have "hacked around" at all hours with other guests and alone. The restaurants and diners in the area are lovely and fun. The area is downtown old town Philly and walking distance to everything, universities, museums, fresh farm market, train and subway stations, post office, Liberty Bell and Franklin Museum, etc...

The entrance is on Back Street which looks like an alley but in old town it was a street, like when you are in Edinburgh and you see old cobble stone streets being super narrow so I can see how someone would confuse this with an Alley, but it is a proper street, just by old city standards.

The building that the hostel is in is an antique building which was gutted and remodeled with dry wall and interior windows so that there are no drafts. It is brilliant in my opinion and I love the old city look from the outside and the new modern and also artsy decor on the inside.

There are washing and drying on the premises for your clothes, and a full lovely kitchen in the same level, basement. You can bring food and cook there.

Once a week they had pasta night where management made pasta for everyone to enjoy, then there was wine and cheese night where management bought wine and cheese for the residents to enjoy, there is a night time tour to take of the city for 2 bucks a person. They have a movie night. All of these activities are created to ensure we can have a community spirit in the hostel.

This is why there are musical instruments in the living room and games. There is a Foosball table in the living room and computer terminals and where you can print from the computers.

There is also a TV and it shows MTV most of the time during the day, like a radio it is used. I felt that this could have been eliminated because there was never any quiet, so you could just not hear anything but that is a selfish request of my own because I was trying to locate schools and or jobs in Europe when I was there and it was a bit much with the music all the time even when I was the only one there. But I am sure had I asked for it to be shut off, they would have. I think it is fine if someone wanted it and put it on, then someone is getting something from it but to have it on none stop no matter who is in the room or who turns it on is a bit wasteful and annoying, when I did not want it on.

The kitchen is cleaned each day as well. The breakfast in my opinion is quite nice considering it is not an American hostel custom to offer any at all. It is diverse types of cereal, including oatmeal, and tea or coffee with milk.

The dorms were clean, the sheets also, the only things that remain on the bed are a fleece blanket and the pillow, which gets covered. The rest you take down to the concierge upon check out.

The kitchen could use non-chlorine bleach vs the bleach they use which stinks of chlorine and that is not healthy for the cleaner or the rest of those using the kitchen. I told them already so that may have been changed already. Both kill bacteria, but the non-chlorine kind is not a poison to humans as is the chlorine kind.

I will def. go back to this hostel in the future. :)

Room Tip: the three dorms make selecting a room easy, they are for girls, boys or couples. But they also have...
