“Centrally located, good breakfast”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

Located within easy walking distance from the Greyhound bus station, train, buses and restaurants, this is ideal for travellers without a car.
The room was small and a little "fatigued" but it was clean and the bed was comfortable
Saturday night was a little noisy.
Their breakfast was by far the best we had at hotels through the US (only the B&B's beat it)
The cost was very reasonable for what we got.

We visited as part of our tour of USA on our honeymoon in August; what a gem! The staff are so friendly, knowledgeable, informative and lovely - they give you so much information on the local area which we used the whole time. The hotel is so sweet, old but in a charming way, our room was a lovely size. It also had everything you need, magazines on the city, power points, hair dryer, extra pillows, air con and even the soaps given in the bathroom smelt delicious!

Location is great, you are only a few blocks away to the heart of the city but are in a charming neighbourhood with restaurants, bars, shops all around.

A great hotel at a reasonable price, perfect location and wonderful staff. They even have fruit and danishes all day available to eat - as an English people we found it hard to find fruit or snacks that aren't the 'American' size portion so this was helpful.

Would stay there time and time again.

Room Tip: Corner rooms seemed larger

My partner and I live in Baltimore and about twice a year we go up to Philly for the weekend, to get away, visit the museums, and so on. Some friends told us to try the Alexander Inn, which is located in the midtown "gayborhood" area we like but which has a lot of character, unlike to new, "modern" hotels. They were right. The Alexander Inn is a beautifully restored old hotel with great personality. We had a room at the end of the hall, which had a large bay window and lots of light. As it happened, the weekend we were there it literally poured outside, and we had not brought along umbrellas. The front desk gave us each an umbrella, free of charge. The guys behind the desk were very friendly and helpful and concerned that we had a good time. It really is an old-fashioned hotel. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the end of the hall with a bay window. It will have a lot of light.

Well located in a quite street, the hotel is near to every sightseen in Philly. It's kind of boutique hotel, so you'll find not anonymous rooms. Our room was decent-sized, with a beautiful bow window, but a/c was very noisy and blinds weren't well working. You can find lots of restaurants close to the hotel with the well done and useful guide in your room. Breakfast is complementary and quite good, served in a small room. Very kind people at the front desk. If you are not looking for luxury, it's a really good choice.

Alexander Inn is fairly priced, in a good neighborhood, and staffed with friendly people. The room was a good size. The only downfall is the size and configuration of the bathroom, especially for a traveling family of four. It's indicative though, of the older area and building. Still, with planning, it was manageable. Our room had a fridge and safe - I think all the rooms automatically have this. Our room had a bay window area and the view of the street below was great. There is easy access to the hotel's main entrance (for picking up and dropping off luggage), but the actual parking is a couple blocks away. We had a van with a roof-top carrier that would not fit in the parking structure, but the staff was very helpful in finding us parking near by. It was more expensive, but reasonable. It would have been good to know this prior to arriving at 11pm and having to fuss and figure this out after a long day of driving.

Just can't get over the consistency of this hotel. It is comfortable, breakfast is good, relaxed atmosphere, clean, upscale, and all round convenient to everything great in Philly! Avenue of the Arts is only 3 blocks away. Historic District is 5 blocks away. Shopping downtown is at the doorstep. Nationally known Reading Terminal Market is 4 blocks away. This is the first time that we had our car with us, so we parked it at the garage that the hotel has arrangements with and never got it out once for our 48 hours in the city. Parking is cheap compared to the $48 that the other downtown hotels are now charging. There is a 20 minute loading zone directly in front of the hotel.
Staff is knowledgeable and will help in any way they can. The guests at the Alexander Inn seem to be more and more international, so the word is out about this place. Anytime we are in Philly, this is where we will stay.

It's a small boutique hotel. Reasonably priced and very nicely furnished. It's an older building, but very well maintained, and it was CLEAN! The front desk staff were so helpful in every way. We were there because my brother was having a serious operation and a nearby hospital, and every day, one of them would stop and ask how he was doing. We were asked numerous times if we needed anything. They couldn't have done any more. Although I'm not a breakfast eater, the continental breakfast was a nice touch. The coffee was one of the best I've ever had. Only downside to the hotel was the parking was a few blocks away. Dropping your things off wasn't an issues, but dragging luggage out was a pain...oh, and parking was an additional $15 a day. Would I stay there again, ABSOLUTELY!

Room Tip: Rooms are small, so if you can get a room with double beds, they are larger than the kings.
