This charming boutique hotel is in the heart of Center City close to everything. It is a historic, art deco buiding and the décor truly reflects that. A basic breakfast is offered each morning. Our room was not large but was very comfortable. Next time (and there will be a next time) we'll splurge on a bigger room with a bay window. A plethora of information is offered to you upon check-in, including lists of best places to eat which are a short walk away and inexpensive. With that, they offer you the chance to "keep it real" as opposed to being a textbook tourist. If you have extra energy and are frugal, the inn is a 10-minute walk from Market East train station where the airport line stops. Kudos to the Alexander Inn!

I found the Alexander Inn on budgettravel.com. They definitely lived up to the recommendation. I stayed in a queen single room. Though on the small size, it was perfect for a single traveler. It was clean and pleasant. The staff was accommodating and friendly. If given the opportunity, I would stay there again.

The hotel is located centrally in a fun part of town - lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Just a mile to historic district, nice walk. The staff are what makes this hotel so nice. The front desk personnel are helpful and friendly. The gentleman who runs the breakfast room is a wealth of local information. Breakfast is simple but sufficient. The rooms are definitely small but very clean and adequte. Internet works great. Bathroom is clean and well-equipped, flat screen TV's are nice, beds are comfortable, air conditioning works (but it is a bit noisy, consider it white noise.) Loved the well-kept antique wood and tile. Don't stay here if you intend to spend a lot of time in the room, as they are small, but if you want to experience the city it is a great find. Discounted parking is available, a small distance from the hotel.

This is my third visit to Philadelphia and to the Alexander Inn. Lovely boutique hotel, rooms are small but then again you shouldn't be spending too much time in your room anyway. Location is excellent, within walking distance to everything; it’s in a safe location which is priority for me. Although I've given 5 stars the only gripe I have on my last visit was the breakfast, food stuff was running out and not replaced and server on duty seemed very stressed like having to refill coffee and replace bread was such an inconvenience. Having said that the hotel staff are courteous, helpful and polite and will always use the Alexander on my Philadelphia visits.

We found this hotel to be everything other reviews have already highlighted - clean, comfortable, convenient and with friendly and helpful staff. Their list of recommended local restaurants was particularly useful. Breakfast was among the better inclusive ones we have found so far in our US trip (nearly 3 weeks). One point I would mention is that we were somewhat apprehensive about making our way on foot from the nearest station (Market East) but found the whole area very unthreatening, with almost a continental pavement cafe culure. Highly recommended.

booked this after reading a review in Time Out and seeing the other recommendations on tripadvisor. GREAT location - near great restaurants and near lots of sights. the place is perfectly located for exploring the historical sights, eating good food, and just walking in the city. would highly recommend.

We stayed at the Alexander Inn in Philadelphia for three nights and enjoyed it immensely. The staff give the hotel a very welcoming feel to it and the whole ambience is friendly and warm. In particular John, the Innkeeper was so friendly and helpful; pointing out places to visit that we could so easily have missed.

The hotel is situated in a very interesting area with many buildings nearby that have historical interest. The breakfast was good and particularly enjoyed the pumpernickel bread. Would definitely go back if we were in Philadelphia again.
