First time visiting Philadelphia. Central location--walking distance to great bars and restaurants (For a low-key (but clean!) hole-in-the-wall bar try the Wrap Shack located on a 2-minute walk from the hotel). Walking distance from the Travel and Leisure reviewed pie shop "I Luv Magpie" (Went with a good, but very sugary Vanilla Custard slice). Walking distance to many subway stops (2.25 one-way), which was the most convenient and cheapest way to travel to Citi Field and watch the Phillies.
Hotel service was EXCELLENT. Front desk staff was friendly, concise, and helpful when offering directions, and restaurant recommendations. Very conversational.
Room was a tad on the small side for the price. Booked as a last-minute hotel deal the night before the stay. HotelTonight and the Sofitel website offered the same last minute price (HotelsTonight had the room cheaper, but twice the taxes and fees, Softel had the room more expensive, but less taxes and fees....either way, saved about 30$ by booking last minute.)
King bed was soft. Nice for a night, not nice for a week. Pillows could have been thicker. Great room decor, although the white chairs are deceptively uncomfortable--visually pleasing, but uncomfortable. The bathroom is gorgeous. Toiletries top-of-the-line. Hand-soap smells delicious. However, the bathroom had weird double doors, like skinny, french-door style--which made privacy a bit lower on the list--also it made walking into a half-open door in the middle of the night a distinct possibility.
Overall, great stay. Wonderful front desk staff. Expensive, but a fun splurge for one night.
ps. parking is off-campus. Don't valet through the hotel--literally a BILLION garages are within walking distance. I went for covered garage parking on 19th street (The Kennedy House) for 28$ a night.
