“Great hotel and great staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2013

Check in was made so easy, and the front desk staff were so friendly!!!. We wanted to walk to dinner, and she gave us so many options. The room we got has an amazing view of the river and bridge. Not a super big room, but arranged so it is very nice. Very clean room, and I think the best night sleep in a hotel in quite a while. Housekeeping staff were also very nice and friendly. Went down to breakfast, and there was plenty to eat, and the lobby was full of people. The breakfast staff kept everything full so people still had lots to eat.
Great water pressure in the shower, and that is nice.
I wanted to go sight seeing, and again the front desk staff gave me a walking maps, highlighted it and told me how to get where I wanted to go.
If you are traveling with kids who like need a pool, there is not one on site, but a list of parks with pools in the area.
Would I stay here again. absolutely!!!

Stayed here over the June 1st weekend. It was hot outside and the hotel's air conditioning was on full blast making the stay very comfortable. The check-in process was quick and friendly. The room was very clean and welcoming. The bed was nice and soft, had clean white sheets, and comfortable pillows. The complimentary breakfast station was well stocked, even with a crowded hotel. Everything about the actual hotel was superb.

Except..

It's noisy. Very noisy. Both inside and outside. We were on the highway side and could hear the cars blaring by each night. I did fall asleep and got 8 hours of comfortable sleep, but it was tough falling asleep. It was also noisy in the hallways. Sometimes to the fault of no one, families communicating on the check out, hanging at the elevator, etc. carried through the hallways. But I could see it being miserable if you're on the same floor as a rowdy group. Also, the maids didn't seem to care about the noise issue as they were banging around at 9 in the morning each morning. Luckily this wasn't a big "drinking" weekend vacay or I could have gotten very annoyed.

BE AWARE! Parking costs $25 a night on premise and there's not enough spaces for patrons so they valet your car and they're not great valets. Just FYI

All in all, if you're on a "fun" weekend and looking to stay comfortable and cheap, I recommend it. But I'd show a flag of caution to families or travelers looking to rest comfortably, especially on the weekends.

Room Tip: Try to stay on the non-highway side (side opposite the elevator shaft)

Dear Craig L,

Thank you so much for your review. We appreciate it when our guests take the time to let us know how we are doing.

First thank you so much for staying at our Holiday Inn Express. I am glad that most of your stay was to your satisfaction.

Our hotel is located in a very busy area in Penn's Landing/Historic Area. We would recommend that the next time you visit you book the riverview side. This side of the hotel is a little quieter, but as you know, Penn's Landing is very busy with tourist and local activities. I am going to meet with the Head of Housekeeping to follow up on your comment about the staff.

Parkiing is at a premium here in the city. We have researched our pricing to be sure that we are competitive in the market. We do charge for parking as this allows us to provide a secured lot with a attendant on 24/7. We also permit in/out access which most hotels do not. And you may leave your car in our lot up until 4pm on the day of your departure to allow more time to explore Philadelphia.

Thank you so much for your feedback! Have a great summer and we hope to see you again.

Warm Regards,
Kim Killeri

Location - A+
Cleanliness - C (hair everywhere, and not mine, yuck)
Value - C (free for me, but $25 to park? Really?)
Service - B- (could be better)

Overall not that bad. Just one night stay so not much else to say

Free breakfast.

Room Tip: Surrounded by roads, freeways and railroad

Dear jim2968,

Thank you so much for your recent review. We will be sure to review your comments at our Staff Meeting. We take reviews very seriously and appreciate it when guests make us aware when we miss our goal. This allows us to provide targeted training in the areas that guests tell us that we fall short on.

Parking is at a premium downtown, and it is important to keep the limited spots we have to our patrons. We are competitive with our parking rates and have found that charging a minimul fee is the best solution.

We hope to see you again in the future. Have a great summer!

I write many reviews since I travel extensively. I don't often give a bad review but this place has very poor management. I got a good AAA Auto Club rate only to find out upon arrival that they charge $25 per night for parking. When I needed to leave the lot early in the morning I found that I was locked in. To get out, I had to wake up the lot attendant that was sleeping in his car.

The hotel staff was not acceptable either. I told the front desk clerk that my coffee maker wasn't working. He said they would replace it. Never did. The room had dust and hair on the nightstand. When I went to adjust the air conditioning, the control door fell off since it was just sitting on top of the unit in need of replacement. Upon checking out early in the morning they couldn't print my receipt. I was told they would email a copy. They didn't. I had to call for the receipt once home. When they finally emailed it, it was incorrect. I had to make another call to finally get it corrected.

I asked the front desk attendant why they they were shutting the water off from 11AM to 3PM and his reply was "i have no idea".

The place is noisy being located next to railroad tracks and the walls / doors are very thin.

I just can't recommend you stay here.

Could not find a better value so close to Historic Center. Happened to be on a very busy Memorial Day weekend and everything was satisfactory. I did a lot of research as we are on a 10 week road trip and expenses are a prime concern. This place was fantastic...hope to get back tgo Philadelphia one day and will stay here.

We stayed at the holiday inn express penn's landing over memorial day weekend with the crew team from our son's high school. The hotel was clean, nice lobby space for gathering, and they did a great job accommodating our team and needs. Great location for walking to the old city as well. Nick at the night desk was excellent - great service and attitude. Definitely a very good pick for our trip.
