Philadelphia Zoo is small but well done. Their upgrades over the past decade (or so) have improved exhibits and animal visibility is better, more open for the animals and more fun with overhead pathways for some animals. There are several hands-on experiences. This zoo is small enough to see all of it in one day, if one starts in the morning.

While I am not a fan of zoos I went within some friends. The coolest thing about this zoo is the tunnel overhead that allows the animals to roam around. The monkeys seemed to have a blast.

If a rating of 3.5 were available, that is what I would have selected. The Big Cat exhibit was not all that exciting. No lions. Several individual exhibit areas lacked animals. They make a big deal out of the '360' overhead trails but there was not one animal in any of the trails. The one very good exhibit was the large primates. Two of the Gorillas were on a 'play visit' and were go to see them doing some chasing and 'rough-housing'

Love this zoo so much that we resumed our membership for a second year! We like to walk and just do sections and not rush the whole zoo experience. We people watch and chill with one animal for one day. The zoo 360 is cool if and when you can catch the animals out - which is rare. I suggest going early in the day, so they might be out and active. Later in the day they just basically chill. This zoo is great for the young and the young at heart. Staff is super friendly and always ready to answer questions.

Overall a decent zoo but, it became unenjoyable when 25 bus loads of school kids packed in. You literally could not walk through the Reptile/Amphibian building. It was that congested. I understand the educational aspect, but there should be a limit on how many people are let in. The Zoo should consider the experience of it's other patrons. Have and publish a non-school day so others can enjoy the Zoo without the swarm of 1000 plus extra souls.
