“Convenient Convention Center Hotel”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

The Hampton Inn is conveniently located across from the new section of the Convention Center but it is also close to Reading Terminal, Drexel Medical College (Hahnemann) and shopping. The rooms were clean. Breakfast was good. My only problem is parking. Both valet and self parking are expensive and not included in the room rate. Wireless internet connection is free. There are also several computers in the lobby to access the internet for free. However, compared to other Philadelphia hotels, this place was a bargain!

Made a last minute reservation and was very happy with the Hampton Inn. The location was central to many places in Philly. The staff was very helpful, rooms very clean, and the breakfast was good.

Our family stayed at the Hampton inn, downtown, over the recent April break. From the minute we pulled up and had to park almost to the end of the block, we were greeted by staff who bent over backwards to help us a welcome us. The first indication that we would be cared for was the doorman/parking attendant who walked all the way down to meet our car and welcome us. Front desk staff was knowledgeable and always helpful, breakfast staff was friendly and accommodating. We were most impressed by the kindness of our housekeeper, Leslie. Unfortunately, on the 2nd day of our vacation, our daughter hurt her ankle and had a cast put on at Philadelphia Children's Hospital. When Leslie heard about what happened she offered her help if it was needed. The next day, slipped under our door, was a handwritten note from Leslie along with a DunkinDonuts gift card, for our daughter. We were so moved by her thoughtfulness and generosity!

We found the people in Philly, and in particular, our hotel staff, to be welcoming and considerate. We would most definitely return to this hotel, no question. A room that is clean and comfortable is only part of what we loved about this Hampton Inn. The staff really make the hotel great.

Only one small suggestion though. The hotel is hard to identify when you are driving down the street looking for it. How about a Hampton Inn sign nearer to street level?

Room Tip: Choose a room on a higher floor if you don't enjoy "city sounds".

I've stayed at this location twice in the last two years for both trips I made to the area. The rooms are clean, the location is quiet, and the front desk staff is friendly and helpful. They redid the breakfast area between my two trips and put in a small bar. I think I preferred the old, larger breakfast area. This hotel is an easy walk to the convention center, Reading Terminal market, and the hospitals on Broad street are just a bit further. Some evenings they put out the locally made soft pretzels by the elevators, and they're pretty tasty. The only downside to this location is the parking. The first night of the initial trip we tried the valet and the next morning was not good. From then on, we just go ahead and park down the block where the valet put us and walk back and forth to the hotel.

This was perfect for our family vacation to Philadelphia. Close enough to various sites and food. Breakfast buffet was great. Kids loved having their own suite. Rooms were clean and nice. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Despite its exterior, this hotel is somewhat dated. The rooms are smallish and frankly, cheap. The closet door was a cheap, thin piece of fiberglass and squeeeeeeeeeeeeeked opening and closing and it resembled something you would find in a cheap motel vs. a Hilton property. The shower tub was cramped and definitely in need of a replacement. There is no fridge and the TV is small by Hilton standards. For some reason, there was about a 3-5 sec delay before you saw a picture as you channel surfed. Argggghh! Like many Hamptons, the AC is terrible. On the loud and annoying side and did not seem to cycle off once the desired temp was reached. The location is close to the convention center, but not so close to the Reading Terminal Market. Parking is NOT convenient as it is off property and like the bath/shower, super tight it reminded me of the small parking lots in NYC where they park behind your car and box you in. You have to pay for the parking separately and in advance. The staff was very average in friendliness and competence.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review concerning your stay at the Hampton Inn Philadelphia. I apologize for the problems you incurred with the tub, closet door and air conditioner. The hotel was completely renovated up to Hampton standards within the last year and I was surprised to see you thought it was cheap . The TV's are 32" and do have a couple second delay in starting. I will forward your comments to Hilton so they are aware of your opinion.

Thank you.

The Hampton Inn is in a good spot across from the Philly convention centre and is fairly central for touring the city. The rooms are good size with comfortable beds, air con, coffee maker and large tv. The free breakfast, wifi, coffee and cookies expected from Hampton Inn were all present, although I think the breakfast was fairly simple and the staff ignorant.

As others have mentioned, there's a huge homeless problem in the city and I found people walking in and out who obviously weren't staying at the hotel, the coffee on tap is a draw, naturally! The concierge never wore uniform, which isn't right in any hotel, and the silly pool is so small it should be converted to a second hot tub for when the other one is taken over by a group of teenagers, as happened both times I tried to use it.

The internet machines on this level were fairly slow and kept freezing up, and I felt a little unwelcomed by staff who are generally superb at Hampton Inns I've frequented in the past.

A comfortable night's sleep, but that's all for me.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I certainly apologize for the staff not being friendly. The hotel normally rates very high in customer service and I'm sorry you did not experience that great level. In regards to the homeless in Philadelphia; their is a soup kitchen a block away and lunch is served to them Monday-Friday. Before and after this time more individuals attending this are on the streets. The hotel does monitor the guests/non guests coming into the hotel. Since we have only one entrance it's easier to monitor.
I hope you enjoyed Philadelphia.
