“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 24 September 2011

In addition to its very close proximity to UPenn, the hotel is a nice place to stay. I would recommend it, I would be happy to stay there again. It has been renovated recently and the decor and appearance was outstanding. The bathrooms have a very sleek and contemporary design, the shower was very spacious. The room is also well-equipped for working, a large desk, convenient power outlets and attachment options for computers to the monitor. The hotel attempts to be green by having a Euro-like power situation, requiring a room key in a wall slot for the lights to be on; this at times was more of a nuisance sometimes though. A unique feature was an iPad in the room, which was useful to access hotel features and information. Internet access was free, a nice plus, not common with better hotels. The adjacent Pod restaurant, very unique in decor, was an excellent place to have dinner. Finally, it was a quick 15-20 min ride to the airport.

This hotel worked well for us for a short two night stay. We had a hard time finding a hotel in Philadelphia with good Trip Advisor reviews and reasonable rates and settled on this hotel after finding a discounted rate that included parking (still high in our opinion, but took some of the sting off the high overnight parking rates that are common throughout the city).  As many have mentioned on Trip Advisor, this hotel has been recently renovated. We did not find the fancy "key needed to run the lights" system as annoying as others.  Seems like a perfectly reasonable addition. One thing about the room that we did not like were the bed frames...they stuck out much past the mattress and my husband and I both smacked our knees pretty good.  I'm embarrassed to even mention that in a review, but for a newly renovated room, it's poorly designed.  The water also takes quite a while to warm up for the shower.

Despite having a car, we took cabs around the city and the valet attendants were the saving grace for the staff at this hotel-nicest I've every experienced. The front desk staff were a bit cold. Cabs were almost always lined up outside this hotel which was nice. We ventured down to the SEPTA stop nearby once, couldn't find a ticket machine and came back for a cab. With some better research on our part the SEPTA would have been a good option for getting around the city from this hotel as well.

Overall this is a lovely hotel and I give the Hilton additional props for the free Wi-Fi in the rooms.

This hotel was fabulous!! My husband and I stayed there for one night and were a little hesitant at first because of the location. It is situated outside of the city limits right next to University of Penn Campus. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was extremely helpful. It was just a cab ride to anywhere in the city we needed to go.

With recently refurbished rooms, the Inn at Penn retains its classic style in the large common areas of the hotel. Booked at the lowest rate, the room was medium size with an outstanding view of the roof. The high-end furniture completely filled the area. There was no bathtub, but instead a large shower. An iPad provided internet access together with a box containing a variety of computer cords. A personal iPad was unable to connect to the Hilton system. Service was generally excellent as was the buffet breakfast. Reasonable restaurants with a generous supply of university students are within a two block radius. While the room is on the expensive side, the parking and meals also follow this trend. Those who have no interest in electronics may not appreciate the use of the room card to access the power.

My daughter and I stayed for one night in a Corner King Suite when visiting the Penn campus. The hotel is virtually on the campus and being a visiting student triggers a significant discount from rack rates. The Corner Suite comes with a king bedroom which can be closed off from the living room area which has a pull out sofa. The living room has a 55 inch television on the wall and the bedroom has a somewhat smaller flat screen. An Ipad is also part of the room amenties which can be used to order room service, check out other hotel services or have free internet access if you didn't bring a computer. Huge windows allow views of the Penn campus and surrounding street life, functional but not luxurious furniture is very comfortable, a very modern bathroom without tub and a wetbar with coffee maker are also included.
I did see a standard room which was being cleaned and it appeared to be a standard Hilton type hotel room. If you are traveling as a family and can afford the upgrade, the Corner King Suite will provide a very upgraded experience.
Service upon arrival at the front desk in the evening was very friendly and accommodating while the day shift was a bit more aloof. The buffet breakfast was very good and worth the cost over the expensive room service menu.
This was an excellent hotel stay with no faults or concerns and highly recommend the Inn for those visiting the Penn campus or West Philly area.

Thank you for your very nice comments about the Inn at Penn. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your return visit. The hotel finished a multi-million dollar renovation in March of this year and we are very proud of the quality of our new guestrooms. The corner king suite is one of my favorites in the hotel and I am so glad you and your daughter enjoyed it! Until your next visit... Nancy Barag

My spouse had surgery scheduled at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvannia so we stayed at the hotel for the night prior to the surgery and I stayed on for a second night. The staff were exceptionally helpful and courteous and the room had every comfort. The hotel was quiet, the bed and the pillows excellent and the bathroom was beautifully appointed. We particularly appreciated the lighting system in the bathroom and the capability to have a nightlight without lighting up the bedroom. We had excellent meals in the hotel restaurant. We would highly recommend this hotel for a short break and its easy access to the Hospital and the University.

I recently moved my daughter into the University of Pennsylvania campus and this is the hotel to be at. I have stayed here many times and the convenience to anything on the Penn campus cannot be beat. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, the location is perfect. The overnight parking is expensive but that is the norm for any of the city hotels now. The train station is only 5 minutes away for Amtrak and there are bus stops and subway stops right on campus to get into Philadelphia.
