Good night IRENE!, the recent hurricane that is... and the words of a generations ago song my father used to sing.

I live on the coast of New Jersey "on the water", and very recently the state government expressed its concern that I not live" in it", and issued a mandatory evacuation.

After numerous attempts at securing a hotel room a safe distance from the coast "to no avail" my wife and I called our credit card concierge with pleas of assistance. For years I avoided doing so because I always felt that they always gave good recommendations, however their concern for the bottom line was secondary. Call it a sign of the times if you will but lately I have found that they make great recommendations at great price points...in other words DEALS, if specifically charged with doing so.
Our concierge recommended a boutique hotel off Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, the Rittenhouse 1715, about a hour away from home.

We secured the reservation, and were pleasantly greeted an hour later by Marian, the bright eyed smiling desk manager of the hotel that rainy, and stormy evening, She secured our vehicle and arranged for the delivery of our bags and offered us tea in beautiful mismatched antique cups. The room was very elegant and comfortable but updated with the IPhone adapter radio etc. The duration of our four night stay was assisted by Daniel, Marilyn & Jarrod with outstanding restaurant recommendations, sumptuous continental breakfasts and ongoing offers of assistance. The hotel was comprised of three early 18th century buildings lovingly restored and" joined at the hip"!

We met each evening with interesting fellow travelers over a glasses of wine and morsels of cheese and discussed our mutual museum adventures of the day ( most within walking distance). We truly felt we were staying with family, and were welcomed and assisted at every turn! We will definitely return, but without IRENE next time!

Rittenhouse 1715 is a nice hotel that is more like a bed and breakfast than a chain hotel. The room was more like a guest room in a friend's home.

I stayed for one night. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the hotel is located in a very nice part of Philadelphia. I suspect that the hotel is ideal for sightseers and vacationers. For business travelers, however, a standard hotel may be more preferable.

From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Renee Gassdmann until we left, we were treated with a warmth and kindness not often found in a public establishment. All our questions were answered completely, advice was readily given, and all our needs were satisfied. This hotel is truly a gem in a great location in central Philadelphia

We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of our holiday. We had always avoided "boutique" hotels in the past, but Rittenhouse 1715 was a revelation. It was more like being at home than in a hotel - Daniel and all the staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The location was ideal, the continental breakfast was good and the room was first class. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

My husband and I were looking for a hotel for one night in Philadelphia as we were making our way south along the coast on a road trip. We found Rittenhouse 1715 on our GPS and made a reservation for one night and ended up staying for THREE NIGHTS! We never stayed at a "boutique hotel" before and were leery of what the experience may bring. WHAT A WONDERFUL SURPRISE! The hotel staff was AMAZING, our room was good size, impeccably clean and very "homey". They offered cookies in the lobby all day long, a wine reception in the evening, a complimentary continental breakfast with a chef available to make omelets, waffles and fruit smoothies. We felt right at home and couldn't believe the "white glove" treatment. We'd NEVER experienced that at any of the many major hotels we've stayed at. Put it this way....we missed breakfast the morning we were leaving, so on our way out the dining staff asked if she could get us something to eat to take along with us for the road! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL!
