My son was a rower for eight years. I love watching the regatta's and we still go. Some of the best times of his life and mine were spent with the rowing familes and feeding the boys the teamwork and medals. Aberdeen took over when the city bailed and has made the day even better. Dad vail and stotesbury are my favorites. The rowing was one of the best things for my son. I spent alot of cold days and rainy days were boots in certain months and dress warm. After 30 medals in is in your blood.

Love the walk around and down to Boat house Row. Get your bearings at the top by the museum. Then walk and explore as far as you can walk. The view of Boat House Row from the museum is great for those with disabilities. You can wheel right up to the edge and look across hte river even if you can not make it to the bottom!

On a beautiful weather day you need to find you way to boathouse row are along the river behind the main art museum. The dozen plus historic houses are home to city's high school, college and club crew rowing teams. The houses are not for tours, unless you chat up a rower on their way in who lets you in to take a quick look.

The best viewing / where all the iconic photos are take are form across the river. To get there youcan just follow the trail in front of the boat house around the back of the art musum through the very nice old wter works viewign which make fo rgreat photos too but the best are found if you continu onthe trail over the car bridge (ther is a pedestrian sidewalk) to diretly across from the boatahouses (about a 10 minute wlak form boathouse row)

Best time to visit of course are when there are regattas which are hed a couple miles up river form Boathouse row. The main season is in the Spring with Sunday races include High School and College Nationals in late April / early May but also a major regattts in late October.

The houses along Boathouse Row are definitely attractive and very interesting from a historical point of view. There is one restaurant about half way down the row. We did not try it so I really can't comment on it. You really don't get much of a flavor by walking along the front of the boathouses. You do not have access to the river side of the houses and you can't see the docks from the street side. Glad we walked down Boathouse Row but there are many more things in Philly which are more interesting if you are short on time. I'm told that if you know someone on a rowing team that can take you in a boathouse, it is much more worthwhile. I also understand that Boathouse row is beautiful at night if viewed from the other side of the river.

It's a bit of a walk from the city centre but definitely worth it to see this beautiful row of unique buildings. There's not all that much to see and do here but if you visit on a sunny day, you can sit and wile away the hours at the river's edge. It's easy to forget you're in urban Philly when you visit Boathouse Row.
