Description: SoWe Bar and Kitchen is a casual American bistro offering creative comfort food in warm, welcoming setting. Proprietors Nancy Law and Troy Barton have designed SoWe to be the neighborhood's "home away from home", knowing that Rob Miracle's seriously good bistro fare will draw the Center City gastro-crowd to "South West Ceneter City Philly". Great snacks, burgers, salads and large plates are served by a friendly, knowledgeable staff. An extensive bar selection, wines by the glass and craft beers on tap and by the bottle. Kitchen is open late night. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday.

“Very good food, really cute spot!”
Reviewed 28 June 2012

I am always excited to try new restaurants in the city, so was thrilled to hear good thing about SoWe. It was an adorable spot - great bar area, decent amount of outdoor seating. There were really cute touches in the decor that made the place feel really great. The food was really good - we got a chilled roasted pepper and tomato soup that was delicious, refreshing and not too heavy for a warm evening. The seitan and mushroom panini was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. Great french fries as well. We ordered deviled eggs (jalepeno and cheddar that night), which I thought were just okay. But I cannot wait to go back to try more of their food, because the rest of it was very good!

They are going to start karaoke on Saturdays and Quizzo on Tuesdays within a few weeks, so I will for sure be back for food and fun!

I might give an excellent review next time if I get any entrees that live up to the sandwiches and blow me away!

I should also point out that the waiter was really great, very friendly and took great care of us. The food came out pretty quick, which was not the end of the world, but courses should be spaced a bit more if a group is talkative (oops).

“New location, same good Turkish food.”
Reviewed 6 June 2012 via mobile

The Divan Turkish Kitchen has moved to a new location at 622 S. 6th St, just off South St in the Queen Village neighborHood. It is now called Divan Mediterranean Grill, same ownership. We ate there recently and were quite pleased with the quality of the food, general ambience, and attentive service. The Divan seems to be a family-run operation and it shows. Standouts were the lamb shishkabab with tender marinated lamb cubes. We also tried and enjoyed the home-made lamb dumplings in a tasty yogurt sauce. The Divan is BYOB with no corking fee.

“Turkish Delight”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

This little, unassuming restaurant on the corner has some of the best Turkish food I've ever had and that's saying a lot as I've actually eaten in Turkey.
THe service is attentive and friendly. The portions are ample although hearty eaters might want to order an appy. (Get the Turkish CIgars!)
They have a limited bar menu but you are welcome to bring your own wine for a small cork fee.
Save room for dessert because the baklava and Turkish rice pudding should not be missed.
We have met friends here many times and it's our "go to" place for a fun night out with visiting family.
It's a little gem in a section of Philly you might never find unless you're looking for it.

“We left HUNGRY, DISAPPOINTED and with LIGHTER WALLETS!!!”
Reviewed 17 December 2010

Four of us decided to go to Divan a few weeks ago for dinner. It was VERY UNSATISFYING on a number of counts. It is a neighborhood joint. Nothing fancy. But the prices were far from reasonable! Esp. for Turkish food! Now, on to our experience. First, we could barely read the menus with the amount of light above our table in the back of the restaurant. Second, we ordered hummus for the four of us to share and it came with NO PITA! Instead, we got croutons!! HUH?? Then, we ordered ground eggplant to share. NO PITA, again! And the waiter kept trying to take our plates before we were finished with the skimpy appetizers! Three times, we had to tell him No, we were NOT finished! The WORST insult of all was one of our party noticed a memo on the bottom of the menu, stating that Divan is a cash business, BUT if you wish to use your credit card, they would charge the card an extra 4% handling fee!! I wanted to leave right then and there, on principle!!! But, we were all very hungry, so we decided to lump it and pay the fee. The entrees came and they were all mediocre at best! Then, the ULTIMATE INSULT: When we got the check, they had charged us not 4%, but 10%! We called the waiter over and informed him of this and he didn't seem to understand our complaint. So, we told him that this charge was ILLEGAL, at best. His response: "Yes, we hear that all the time here from customers, but i'm just the waiter and if i get the Mgr. or Owner they will tell you to go on the restaurant's website and email your complaint!!! We were dumbfounded and outraged, to say the least! So, we paid it and took it up with the credit card company. The place was a total ripoff and there are far better Turkish restaurants in Phila.
