A dining destination for over 24 years, Varalli Restaurant is conveniently located within a few blocks of the Convention Center, major hotels, theaters and arts venues. This restaurant boasts playful decorative accents that give each dining room the distinction of a chic gallery featuring whimsical oceanic sculptural details and a unique illuminated glass fusion mosaic. Varalli Restaurant is located on the northeast corner of Broad and Locust Streets just across the street from the Doubletree Hilton (which I also review) Established in 1989 their cuisine is Italian and Seafood with a Mediterranean twist. We have eaten here two or three time over the years we have come to visit this city it’s been a favorite of ours and I understand for decades with the locals and theatergoers of Philadelphia because of its wide and varied menu. It features floor to ceiling windows for people watching on the Avenue. High-backed booths make for intimate dining for groups up to six. The restaurant is decorated with fine pieces of original art; mostly from local artists. My wife and I have tried their Pan Seared Filet Mignon, Grilled Marinated Chicken Breast and the Lobster Ravioliand all were very good and the service has always been excellent. The prices for entrees range from $18 to $30 and it’s worth it. They offer a four-course dinner special called “Beat the Crowds” it’s a price fixed menu for $35 available 4:30 to 5:45PM. They also have another restaurant upstairs which is just as good and a little less expensive. Make a reservation or you may have trouble getting in for a great meal.

Varalli did a very nice job handling a 10 person business dinner. The service was excellent and the food was good. The seafood and veal dishes were popular with our group. The location on Broad is close to major hotels and the Arts District.

My mother, sister and I dined at Varalli before our 7:30 show at the Academy of Music. My sister and I got the prix fixe menu for $35. The first course was soup of the day..tomato and fennel bisque that was very good. The second course was an appetizer. We shared the crisp zucchini and the shrimp, both were excellent with wonderful flavors. Third course, we shared the lobster ravioli and the linguini with mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes. Both were excellent, especially the lobster ravioli. Fourth course was dessert: the berries were just strawberries and blueberries, so nothing fancy, but the bread pudding was exceptionally decadent with chocolate and cinnamon. My mother ordered a la carte the salmon on misto salad and raved about that as well. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant. The restaurant has good ambiance and it's not too loud. This was a wonderful dining experience and we were finished in plenty of time for the show just across the street! I dined at this restaurant years ago when it was Upstairs at Varalli and it is just as good as I remember.

Really excellent Italian (not pasta and red sauce) food. Try the scallops crudo and the veal piccata. Good location on Broad Street. Fine dining but casual and friendly.

Located very close to several theater venues, this restaurant with an attractive bar looks like it would be expensive, but is reasonably priced. Entrees range between $18 to $34 and the portions are satisfactory. Sides, besides the one with the meal are extra. We had calamari and fried zucchini and they were delicious. There were 7 of us and Jennifer was on top of things. The host was pleased to see us and set the tone of the evening. There is a nice selection of apps, salads and entrees, including fish, meat and seafood, an extensive wine list and about 10 draft beers. The Cliff Pub upstairs is also a winner with awesome burgers and a list of drafts.
