“Great Appetizers”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

Had dinner with my son visiting from LA - He chose Matyson. He ordered the fois gras and black pasta appetizers which were extremely good. Had the pork tenderloin and the duck entrees, which were both very tasty but moderate portions. Waitress was excellent perhaps the best ever experienced (including LA and NYC). Very informative, friendly and professional. BYOB makes this a very reasonable upscale dinner out.

“Enjoyed dinner but probably wouldn't return”
Reviewed 4 October 2013

This friendly BYO had good food, but the tastes didn't quite jell for me, and I thought that although we had a nice dinner it wasn't good enough to want to return. The foie gras was delicious. The halibut a bit overcooked and unexciting. The chicken and pork entrees both were very good. The almond tart dessert was good but not exceptional. In short, although our dinner was pleasant, and we had no major complaints, it also wasn't great enough to warrant returning here over trying other places.

“Great Food and Atmosphere”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

Great restaurant. Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. Would highly recommend. Wish they took American Express.
Many of the BYOBs in Philadelphia are cash only, so I was pleased to see that Matyson accepted credit cards. Was less happy to find out that they were limited to Visa. In the era of tight discretionary income, I wish that merchants would make it as easy as possible for me to spend my money in their establishments. That means cash and credit with no limitations.

“Delicious meal”
Reviewed 30 August 2013

We were in Philadelphia to celebrate our anniversary. Our dinner at Matyson was terrific. Our fish dishes were wonderful - unusual flavors and well presented, and the service was impeccable. Staff is lovely and even gave us a free dessert to celebrate. Highly recommend this cozy. warm venue. FYI, it BYOB (no opening fees) and it can be a little loud.

“A wonderful dinning experience”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

I visited Philadelphia in May for a conference with two colleges and visited the Matyson on our last night before returning to Australia. It was a great way to end our stay in the US. The service was impeccable. The warm atmosphere and delicious food was thoroughly enjoyed with a good bottle of wine. I would catch a flight from Sydney to Philly in a heart beat just to dine at the Matyson again.
