while the concourse leaps out at the eye, we miss the trains being visible and some of the food locales are positively frustrating, notably cosi's, where we were denied a bagel at 11:20 because 'that's a breakfast item and you're 20 minutes late" as it was described by a clerk who had obviously gotten up on the wrong side of the butter... oh, and the Amtrak train board was out of service and so was any practical escalator...

30th Street Station is a beautiful old train station. It reminds me of an era long gone by. The Amtrak personnel are generally very helpful.

From the outside, this looks like a monsterous rail station, however inside, the mail concourse for Amtrak is not that big lengthwise, or by width. The height of the main consouse is something very impressive. From an archetectural perspective, it's a very nice place to walk thorugh. Fairly clean and safe. Only drawback....SEPTA subway is not directly connected.

This station connects local & interstate trains. It has several places to get food. The staff are helpful in helping you find your train & in purchasing tickets.

We passed thru the 30th Street Station on our way from the Philadelphia Airport up to New York City, via Amtrak. We had a 5 hour layover, which allowed us to catch the subway into Philadelphia to tour the historical sites, but still had a couple of hours to kill at the 30th Street Station. The station is nicely restored, with a wide variety of food options to choose from. Personnel at the Travelers Aid desk were helpful. The station was quite busy for a Sunday afternoon, and we enjoyed watching the people come and go. Not a bad place to hang out to wait or a train. If you have an Amtrak ticket, you can store your bags temporarily (for a fee) if you want to leave the station and come back later. That was helpful.
