The Old City Hall is right beside Independence Hall and once housed The Supreme Court. The Park Ranger inside was great and we had him to ourselves for a personal tour. Doesn't take long to visit, so stop by before or after your Independence Hall visit.

I did not do the tour because it was a Sunday, but was able to walk around and through the grounds of the Old City Hall. Once you walk through this you start to realize that the size of the building is much larger than it appears from outside. Several statues around the grounds-William McKinley "Martyr"-as an historian not so certain about this, but a lot of unique architectural details. Combined with the fountains surrounding it even without taking a tour a nice way to spend 20-30 minutes!

When the lines are long at Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, visit the building next to Independence Hall which is Philadelphia's "Old City Hall". The building is a Colonial era classic from the 1700's when Philadelphia was becoming an important place. We were told by the knowledgeable guard that the early US Supreme Court also convened here to decide cases. (By the way, the photo above is from the current City Hall, not the Old City Hall !!)

Toured Independence Hall, tickets are free, the volunteers are very knowledgeable. I think all school children should see this tour before entering high school. It was a beautiful sunny day we enjoyed everything the park had to offer.

We ducked in to this site when Independence Hall tickets were sold out for the day (by 1:00pm). It's a smaller site but the Park Service guard was very knowledgeable and truly a joy to listen to all his stories and insights into this building and what happened there. We enjoyed our visit.
