I consider myself a bit of a pizza snob. I lived in Naples, Italy, for a few years. They created the pizza, and they still hold the world title for best pizzas. Since I came to the US a few years ago, I've been looking for an authentic Neapolitan pizza. In nearly every case, my skepticism was validated. Restaurants that claim to have authentic pizza from Naples usually fall far short of that standard.
But let me tell you - Nomad Roman is legit. It's the best pizza I've had in the US. I've been a few times and always get the Margherita di Bufala. The crust is spot on. The sauce is simple and delicious. The cheese is even just right in how it's spread around the pizza. I could eat it every day.
Neapolitans are known for being a little gruff. Unless you're family, service isn't their priority. Unfortunately, Nomad Roman matches this, too. Each time I've been, I was met by disinterested staff who seemed to do their best to ignore me. The service is awful, but I still go. The pizza is just too good.
