We arrived at 11 AM for a 3 PM check-in, and were trying to figure out how to live out of our car for 4 hours, when the woman at the desk noticed our problem and checked us in on the spot! Our car was in their garage the whole time (from 11 AM of day 1 to 3 PM of day 2, all for $21), and when we went to get it after check out, it was moved and appeared directly in front of us as we exited the garage elevator. The room was big and clean, everything we wanted to see was within walking distance, and Citizens Bank Park was 6 stops away on the close-by subway. Also, there was an incident which we considered to be a 'nice touch': We got in late one night with lukewarm coffees, and the staff unlocked the kitchen for us so we could use the microwave! Lastly, whenever we walked through the hallways in the mornings, as we passed any room which was being cleaned, we always got a big "Good morning" or "Hello" from the person cleaning that room. All in all, a very 'people-oriented' staff who go the extra yard to make you feel welcome.

We had a reservation, but were denied a room upon arrival, because other guests extended their stay. All the other hotels in the city were sold out, but they eventually found us one in NJ. Finally arrived at NJ hotel at 1am... need to be up at 5am for business. When they found us a room for the next night, some of the workers admitted that this happens often. They often have guests with family members in the hospital next door who extend their stays. Just a warning... don't count on your reservations being honored here! Make reservations somewhere where you know you will have a room.

from the lobby it all looks good and the staff are very helpful and friendly but the hotel itself could do with a complete make over
i have stayed in several holiday inns and this one was by far the worst i have ever stayed in
the smell of smoke was just awful and i smoke so when i think it was bad imagine what the non smokers thought
the decor was really in need of a make over and the walls in the corrider leading up to my room were warped and bent with the paper peeling off in places
the cleaning had a lot to be desired, apart from clean towels and extra toilet paper thats about all we got
the bathroom was silly design the toliet and bath were behind close door but the sink was in the room, it meant you had to go in and out to use the sink
the staff on the front desk were brilliant and really helpful and nothing was too much for them
overall it was over priced for what it was but it was central to Philadelphia and all the shopping

It's nothing fancy, but this hotel was perfect for my needs. Large room with 2 beds, wireless internet, and a convenient location - quick bus to UPenn, inexpensive shuttle from airport, and just a few blocks to train. But most of all, the staff (and I mean every single person) was extremely friendly, polite, and helpful. They were constantly attentive to guests' needs, not waiting to be asked but always inquiring if anything was needed and then cheerfully responding to any request or question. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Philly.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express-Midtown for a week in December. We LOVED it! We had originally booked at a hotel near Independence Mall, but due to a change in our trip dates we had to switch to Holiday Inn. I'm glad we did because the hotel was so convenient to everything. There are many restaurants nearby as well as loads of shopping! There are several different bus stops only a couple minutes walk from the hotel. We had a great, very clean and comfortable room. The staff here was excellent and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Catherine, the breakfast attendent, spoke to us each morning. On the morning of our departure, we had to leave extra early-before breakfast was served, so Catherine made sure we had to go boxes the day prior to our departure so we could take something with us to eat the morning we had to leave! The staff also helped us navigate around the city and answered any questions we had about things to do, etc.
I would definately stay at the Holiday Inn Express-Midtown again if I were to travel to Philadelphia!

we absolutely loved staying here. it felt very safe and had lots of friendly people working here. we loved the free big breakfast which kept us going all day. in the evening we would walk to one of many restaurants on the same street as this hotel.

our room was 1708 and big enough for 3 people and an extra cot!
we bought big bus tour tix which dropped us off within 2 blocks of the hotel. the duckboat tour will pick you up in front of the hotel if you call them. (we are kind of lazy )

the garage guys kept our car safe and were helpful to get it out if needed. the housekeepers were nice and did a great job! at night the traffic was noisy but we turned the "fan" on and slept like babies.

we had no problems during our entire 4 day stay and would stay again!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, Walnut Street, Philadelphia for 4 nights in September 2008. Check-in was quick and easy and staff helpful and friendly. We stayed in Room 1205 (on the 12th floor), which faced Walnut Street. We had a very large room with 2 king-size beds. The bed was really firm – a bit too firm for me though and the pillows were all rather thick and also too much for me. So we asked the room maid for 4 extra bath towels which we folded up and placed inside of a pillowcase – much more comfortable! We had the usual facilities of: air conditioning, TV, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, iron and ironing board, hairdryer. We also had free internet access plus tv games to the room. There was also internet access in the hotel lobby. The bathroom was clean and there was a washbasin and a large mirror which was separate to the main bathroom – really handy. On arrival we were given a ‘goody bag’, which include some rather bizarre items but it also had a cereal bar, small tube of toothpaste plus two lady razors.
The hotel and it’s room were a bit dated and in need of ‘refreshing’. Maid service was a bit slack and most days we did not have the coffee making equipment washed or paper cups replaced. Breakfast was included and had a reasonable selection but no really healthy options and sadly only disposable plastic cutlery and crockery. We had asked for a quiet room but even though we were on the 12th floor there was a lot of traffic noise and on three of the four nights we had a lot of pneumatic tools being used in road-works next to the hotel with workmen working at night and which kept me away from the early hours. The hotel windows offered virtually no insulation from noise. There was no safe deposit box in the room but there were security boxes behind the reception desk. Guests at the hotel have the use of a very good gym a couple of blocks away with 4 floors of equipment and lockers available for your belongings, which was very quiet in the evenings. The hotel had it’s own outdoor pool but we didn’t use it. Parking was extra at $12 per day in a multi-storey car park next door, which had valet parking. It was a very busy car park and, if you wanted your car out during the rush hour, you had to wait for a while as priority was given to commuters who were always in a hurry. The cars are packed in like sardines in a can and the valet has to manoeuvre cars around to get your car out. However, it did feel a safe car park.
The worse thing with our stay was that, when we received our bill on checking-out, we found that it was about $150 more that our reservation. Nothing had been said to us when checking in or at any time during our 4-day stay. However, on checking out, the front desk manager informed us that, even though she acknowledged that we had a reservation made through Priority Club, which was made in the May, some 4 months previously, she had had some trouble getting funds from our credit card a few days before our stay and therefore, they would not honour our reservation price booked via Priority Club. No matter how much I argued that no one had ever mentioned during our stay about any problem obtaining payment on our credit card, she would not accept this and would not honour our reservation booking. We had been using our credit card on a daily basis while in the US and had had no problems whatsoever with it. We therefore had no option but to pay the higher rate. On our return I mentioned this situation to Priority Club and we had the ‘over-charge’ refunded without any argument. So, fellow travellers, beware – check out your price on arrival and get it in writing from the hotel. All in all this was a tatty and overpriced hotel. It was not until we moved on to a rather lovely hotel in Washington that we realized just what poor quality this hotel was. We paid the same price for 4 nights in Washington for a far superior hotel. The best (and only) thing about this hotel was it’s location. Very close to the city centre with many sites walkable.
