Me and misses decided to visit philly just for two days one night and decided to stay at the society Hill hotel...I didn't go to philly expecting 5* service and room comfort... TV wasn't working staff seemed like random people from the street.. Room small and old... Bath was dirty but I paid hardly nothing so I shouldn't complain... If you need to stay just one night and short in cash do it..... BTW... Philadelphia is a beautiful city... Old philly even beautiful

Never ever in your live even think about staying at this place!!
It can not be called a hotel, not even a hostel. it's more like a giant trashcan!!!

It's terrible!

It stinks, its really dirty and awful...

We were there for 3 nights and the place wasn't cleaned until I almost screamed for help.

When we arrived there were nobody there, so we went to the bar to pick our keys... but as soon as we got into the room our drama begun... it was a mess... nobody had cleaned it. There were dirty paper sheets all over, the bad was disgusting and I had to leave in order not to vomit...

The guy from the bar changed our bad, but I'm pretty sure that he just asked for his assistance to try to make a fast clean in another one...

as it was late and our budget was not high we decided to stay for the night.. nightmare...

I couldn't sleep for a second thinking about how dirty the place was... I could hear some weird noises that I belive were rats...

It's terrible even to remenber...

run!!!! Never get even close to this place...

Room Tip: outside the hotel there might be a better place

the location of The Society Hotel is great - it is in the "Old City" where most of the tourist attractions are. Aside from that, there isn't much to be positive about. The whole hotel was dirty and in desperate need of total renovation. The staff was friendly enough, but had very poor manners, and looked like it was the last place on earth, that they wanted to be. The room wasn't much bigger than a closet - there was room for a bed, and that was it. The AC was extremely loud, but we couldn't turn it off because of the heat. There was no ceiling light, and the room was dirty. The toilet wouldn't flush, the handle fell off when we went to grab it. We were told that "it was supposed to get fixed, but it didn't because they figured it out themselves" - well, clearly not! Do yourselves a big favor, and avoid this hotel.

My fiancee and I arrived during check in hours. We rang the bell and no one answered. The sign on the door said to check in with the bar (first red flag), and that door was locked as well. After calling booking.com to no avail, 20 mins later a woman stormed out the door "Yo, did you ring the bell?". Unfortunately, we did. Check in took another 10 mins, with the 'GM' barely giving us a look. Finally, he instructed Miss Did You Ring the Bell, to take our credit card info. After that, the GM became alive, offering to carry our bags to our room. When we arrived, we discovered it was not ready. Another 20 mins of waiting for our hostess to clean our room in a half-assed sort of way. Upon entering, we looked at each other and then the semen soaked sheets and decided no way were we staying in this place. We booked another hotel a mile a way, and informed the 'GM' of our intentions. Over a month later and we are still involved in a dispute over a refund for our hotel room. We were in the room for no more than 10 mins and, John, the 'GM', feels as though we owe him the money we paid to reserve the room. I would not wish this so called 'hotel' on my worst enemy. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. If you have no where in Philadelphia to sleep, you'd be better off sleeping on the street outside of this flophouse.

Well, I didn't read the reviews before I stayed and oh how I should've. I was travelling and on a budget and booking.com had this as a 2 star and the reviews that they previewed were only the good ones, which were probably the only 4 good ones the place has. I arrive at 1, and check in is at 3, which is okay, I wanted to drop my bags in and come back. The front door to the hotel is locked and a sign says ring the bell and someone will be with you. Yeah, the sign lies. So I parked up and figured I'd get my bags later. I return at 3 and there is a sign on the front door saying popped out, be back in 20. There is now another guy waiting by this point. Eventually the woman comes back and we get in and get keys and what not. Upon entering the room, I shut the door behind me to have it bounce back open. The door did not stay shut so I had to keep it locked. The room I entered was the seated bit, which at first sight, didn't seem that bad. Then I think, well where's the bedroom? The door I opened was the bathroom, and the bedroom was on the other side of that? I have never been in a hotel where I had to walk through the bathroom to get to the bedroom. Then I started noticing the things that all other reviews say. No ceiling lights, windows that have gaps and are broken, dirt on the floors. The window in the bedroom has an ac thing which was very loud but it was too hot to not have it on so you can imagine how sleeping went with that thing. The shower was disgusting, I really didn't want to use it, but I couldn't not wash. The sink was as high as my knees and slanted. On the first night I heard all manner of noises that I ended up sleeping with the lights on because it sounded like there was someone in the seating room. After my first night I thought I'd check out the reviews to find that so many people have said the same things that I experienced.

Booking.com put this as a 2 star. I booked a junior suite where the pictures are very far from related, and I paid $430 for 3 nights. Put your money else where.

Room Tip: I was in room 303, unfortunately it wasn't 303 at another hotel
