As the wife of a Civil War historian, Gettysburg is a must-do weekend at least twice per year. Whenever it is not sold out, we stay at this Travelodge in the heart of downtown. It is very clean, comfortable, incredibly convenient and the parking is free. The staff is friendly and courteous, and remembers us whenever we come back. We don't take advantage of the included breakfast simply because there's a great breakfast place right across the street called The Avenue. The hotel is pet-friendly, too.

This hotel is in a great spot, close to everything. We parked the car for two days and were able to walk everywhere we needed to go. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We plan on returning again next year and this will be our hotel of choice.

On our way home from dropping our daughter at camp, we decided to make a stop and spend a day touring Gettysburg. Having done a quick TripAdvisor check prior to leaving, I knew that the Travelodge was #6 on the Gettysburg hotel list. We stopped at the desk in the late afternoon; a room was available and the price was right. The clerk at the desk was very pleasant. The hotel is in a convenient location, within walking distance of the cemetery, many of the monuments and the downtown shopping and restaurant area. The room, though not that of a 5 star hotel, was neat and clean, the bed was comfortable. Our only negative was the noise - it was quite noisy throughout the night (mostly doors slamming) and we were awaken quite early when the slamming doors started again. However, we blame this on rude guests, not the fault of the hotel. The continental breakfast was not as nice as is offered at a Hampton (our usual choice of hotel) but adequate. The food was fresh and the area clean. For the price, it was a great hotel and we will return!

I stayed at this hotel in September with my 2 dogs. The staff was very welcoming. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. The hotel is very close to the battlefield and the shopping area. I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed for two nights on our trip to Gettysburg. The location is so close to everything. We were .9 miles down the road from the Battlefield Visitors Center. It took us about a whole minute to drive there. It is also within walking distance to many restaurants and shops and within walking distance to the Soldiers National Cemetery. We walked to Lincoln Square in about 15 minutes. That was well worth it because the parking can be a bit of an issue at times. Plus we didn't have to worry about feeding a meter! It was a really nice walk - a straight shot - to the square. You walk through history.

SERVICE: We found the service of the people at the front desk was wonderful. When we first arrived, there was construction going on right next door. They were re-doing Steinwehr Ave 24/7 so there was heavy machinery and construction noise all of the time. (This is scheduled to be completed by June 10 I think. Just ask.) The woman at the front desk on check in told us about the noise and changed us from our non-smoking queen room that was right next to the construction to a non-smoking king room on the other side away from the construction. THANK YOU!!!!! Each and every time we walked in the door to the lobby - and we were in and out a lot - they greeted us with a friendly hello and a big smile. Very pleasant. Always ready to help if needed.

ROOM: Very clean, very comfortable. When we were there the temperature reached a HOT 95 degrees and very muggy. The air conditioner worked beautifully and kept us completely comfortable all night. The bed was comfortable. My husband liked their pillows (I always bring my own). We had approximately 5 pillows. The room was very spacious. Shower was good - no problem with hot water. We had a mini fridge in the room. We also had a safe you could use, but we chose not to. We didn't have anything to actually put into it.

SAFETY: We always felt safe walking the streets of Gettysburg, and safe in our area of the hotel. The hotel locks the door at around 11 pm and you must use your hotel key to enter. We walked at 11:00 pm and felt safe. People were around. We did go during a less busy time but were people out walking. Plus the weather cooled at night enough to be out. We saw females walking alone, mostly walking their dogs at night, so we figured it must be pretty safe.

BREAKFAST: If you are looking for fancy, go to a restaurant. The coffee was good. There was juices, coffee, bagels, english muffins, pre-made waffles to toast, fruit, cereals, oatmeal, mini muffins, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, cream cheese and jellies. This is enough to fill you up, simple and good. And the price was right! It's free!

There was a computer in the lobby for guests to use.

There is a restaurant right next door, but we didn't go there. We did go to O'Rorkes Pub and Eatery a few steps away. The food there is VERY GOOD. The service is a little slow, but worth the wait. Plus they had a really good beer special - $1.25 Yuengling draft pint!

All in all, we were extremely pleased with the hotel. it is basic, no frills, but clean and updated. VERY convenient to EVERYTHING!!! We will definitely stay again when in Gettysburg. (My husband is already asking when we can return, two days was not enough to see all the sights.)
