“Wonderful Hotel and recommend it for all”
Reviewed 22 June 2011

We just returned from a 4 day trip to Gettysburg and spent 3 nights at the James Getty Hotel. The hotel was wonderful, clean and homey. I can't say enough about the staff - we were traveling with our 19 month old son and they went out of their way to help us with all of his "gear" and make us comfortable. They also provided a very nice pack and play which made it much easier for us.

The muffins in the morning and cookies in the afternoon were a really nice touch and so appreciated. The kitchenette had everything we needed and the bedroom was very comfortable.

Our room was in the front and on Saturday night it was a little loud outside but not enough to bother us. We would definitely stay there again on our next tri[p.

Arrived to a prompt reception by Katrina who couldn't have been more accommodating. Spent 3 nights and each day was a fun adventure. Good food, very clean and spacious suite (Indian King Inn Suite), perfect location (just off town square), private/free parking, and don't forget to visit Lord Nelson's Gallery. BTW the Segway tour of the Battlefield was awesome. I will stay there again...absolutely.

If you're going to Gettysburg, you HAVE to stay here!! Each suite has its own personality, and they're adorable! You get a basket of fresh breads and fruit every night, plus orange juice and fresh cream for your coffee. Each suite has a private bedroom, bath, sitting area and kitchenette: coffee maker, microwave, stovetop and refrigerator included. The towels are sooo soft!

The hotel is right in the center of town, near historic sites, restaurants and shops.

My husband and I visit Gettysburg a few times per year and stay in a different B&B each time. He really wanted to stay at the James Getty this time so I agreed. The inn is very clean and the room we stayed in (Sign of the Spread Eagle) was surprisingly spacious. It was quiet, comfortable and in the heart of town activity. I loved the basket of goodies/coffee that are in the room for breakfast.

Everything we could ask for: located in the center of historic Gettysburg, roomy suite, cheery decor, great in (kitchenette in suite) room continental breakfast and helpful staff. I cannot say enough about the staff. Not only do they answer your questions, but they volunteer touring and dining information. They are deeply rooted in Gettysburg and its history, and they really want your trip to be meaningful.

Room Tip: just ask Stephanie, the mgr.

This is the second time we have stayed at the James Getty Hotel, and again we stayed in the John Troxell Suite. It is a second floor suite looking directly over the main st. in the front of the building. The suite has a main rom with a couch, chair, table and chairs and a small kitchen area with a full size fridge, microwave, and 2 burner stovetop. The bath is long and narrow, but there are 10 ft ceilings thru out so everything feels quite spacious. The bedroom is past the bath and has a comfortable queen (quite high) with lots of pillows. They leave a very nice plate of fresh baked goods, (different each night) and fresh fruit along with orange juice and coffee each night in your room. We also had chocolates and huge chocolate chip cookies. The baked goods are always delicious and not run of the mill flavors. We love this place for the charm and comfort, they always have plenty of big, soft, towels, the shampoo and conditioner actually are a good quality (wrapped in the hotel's own label) and the location is perfect as it is right in the middle of the town within walking distance to numerous shops, bars, and restaurants. They have their own parking lot directly behind the hotel. My only complaint this trip was that I was awoken a few times by the noisey people outside (probably from the bar next door). The smoking area is directly under the bedroom window and a couple times it got pretty loud out there. I never noticed them last year when we stayed. Other than that, we love staying here, it is a bit pricey, but we love the quality and attention to detail found here, from the reserved spots to pull your car up and checkin, to the handwritten note confirming your reservation. All the staff are always polite and helpful. There is wireless internet, but we had a lot of trouble with the speed of uploads. By the way, the Blue Parrot next door is an excellent choice for an a bit upscale dining choice. Also checkout Lord Nelson's store connected to the hotel, it has a wonderful selection of animal and nature themed artwork. When we stay here, we get a personal guide to drive us around the battlefield in our own car, it is worth every penny!

This was our first trip to Gettysburg and I usually stay in chain hotels. In an effort to support local business and economy, I decided on trying something new. In early April I called the James Getty directly and after a very pleasant Q and A session with the staff, I was chose the Zeigler Holtzworth Livery Suite. Each of the 12 rooms are unique and I would highly recommend avoiding the internet and calling them directly for a personal recommendation / room choice. Tell them what you want and they'll direct you to the most appropriate room!

When we arrived on May 14th, we missed the 2 street side parking spots reserved for hotel check-in. Confused, I pulled over and phoned to ask for parking directions. They not only informed me of the 2 spots but I was personally met at the curb and directed to the parking in the rear. I was also met out back and shown a parking spot!

The entire building was absolutely spotless. The room was spacious, quite and comfortable. The pillows on the bed were quite flaccid but I I have neck and back problems and I travel with my own pillow. The kitchen was fully stocked with glass and silverware and cookware was available upon request.

A variety of delicious fresh baked goods and fruit as well as a carafe of orange juice was delivered in the late afternoon for the morning breakfast. It was plenty of food for the three of us.

The location is perfect with easy walking access to many shops and restaurants. The battlefield is a 7 minute drive.

The James Getty is a niche 12 room hotel, not a chain destination resort! Come with reasonable expectations and you'll never stay anywhere else in Gettysburg.

Room Tip: Call the hotel directly for best room selection.
