“What a wonderful experience!!”

From the minute we arrived we were in awe of the warmth and comfort at the Gaslight .
The room was beautiful! The bed was just heaven and that shower with the steam!
Breakfast each morning was spectacular! Our host and hostess were just so warm and friendly. They gave us very accurate detailed directions and suggestions! Very knowledgable about their area! We all felt like we had known them forever instead of just meeting that weekend!

Love the location of this Inn! Just a block from the town square full of shops, two story antique mall, restaurants, pubs and historical buildings. We were on the third floor and it was quiet. Had a large room with two loveseats and fireplace. Balcony seating overlooks pretty garden. Lively discussion at the breakfast table from guests around the world. Tea and cookies in the evening. Would come back again!

What a great place to take a Honeymoon! My hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As soon as we walked into the Gaslight, Elizabeth was there to greet us with her 2 doggies(making sure we were ok with it first!) She was EXTREMELY helpful in pointing out places to see in town as well as showing us around the inn. Food was awesome and Elizabeth's parents are spectacular people. They made us feel so welcome. We will DEFINITELY be going back!

We stayed at this bed and breakfast on our last trip to Gettysberg. This was our first ever bed and breakfast experience. We have just returned from another trip to Canada and the U.S. and stayed at a variety of bed and breakfasts. We did not realise at the time just how special the Gaslight Inn was, especially to the proprietor's attention to detail. Both Michael and Becky could not have been more helpful, going above and beyond to help us enjoy our holiday. The food was exceptional and you always left the table content. A special touch was the bikkis (snickerdoodles) and pecan pie which was supplied with tea and coffee. The rooms were clean and spacious and very private. Having stayed at many other B&B's, we are yet to find one to match the Gaslight Inn.

Both pluses and minuses, but more minuses....On the plus side, the owner, Mike, was there to greet us and very cordial. The room was clean and pretty spacious as was the bathroom. Breakfast was good, but I wouldn't say great.....On the minus side, East Middle St is very run down. The Inn is only about a 1 minute walk from the town square around the corner, but I'll definitely stay in or around the square next time. The room advertises a fire place but the pilot wasn't on. The shower had a steam bath in it, but the seat was in the way if all you want to do is take a shower. If you do stay here, be sure to call first and make sure you don't get a room on the street side of the Inn. The street was VERY noisy early in the morning. We had the Heather room and sleeping in was NOT an option because of the street noise. When I opened the armoir to hang my clothes, it was stocked with a variety of old, wire, bent coat hangers that looked liked dry cleaning rejects. There was nothing to hang my pants on. On day 2, I found out we didn't get fresh towels. My wife noticed a note saying they're trying to conserve water. If you want fresh towels, you throw your dirty ones on the floor. We never saw this note as it wasn't obvious and the owner never mentioned it. The bed was old and creeky. It didn't bother me too much but my wife didn't care for it. I also had to mail them a check for the deposit instead of just taking my credit card and I had to pay the balance the second I walked in the door. Overall, it wasn't worth the money. I'll definitely go back to Gettysburg but will stay in the square, not here.

Thank you for giving us a "heads up" regarding the hangers in the wardrobe. We have replaced these with sturdier hangers.

We do not "make" guests send us a deposit check, we "prefer" a check for the deposit and ask that you make your deposit by check. If you want your deposit placed on your credit card, just let us know.

All guests have to agree with our "inn policies" stated on the online reservation page as they complete their reservation request (the system requires this step). We have included this registration step to ensure that new guests are fully aware of our policies. These "inn policies" state that the "fireplaces are turned off for the warm season between April 1 and October 31. Of course, if it is cold in early April, we will keep them on; if it is cold in late October, we will turn them on."

As for the "run down" neighborhood, I think this is an unfortunate choice of words and not an accurate description. The residents of E. Middle St. are hard-working folks who keep their houses in fine condition. Some of the homes are actually from the Civil War era. The GAR building is just 2 doors from the Inn. There are, perhaps a couple of houses which need paint, but this does not mean they are run down nor that this is a "run down" neighborhood.

Regarding noise, one of the benefits of staying at The Gaslight Inn is that we are located a little out of the mainstream traffic, but close to the center of town. As a result, we are removed from the constant traffic along Route 30, the main East/West highway through Gettysburg. When guests stay on a weekday (as was the case in this instance), the normal early morning, going-to-work traffic is present here, in Gettysburg, as in any other city.

As for the "water conservation" signs, these are standard in just about every hotel, motel, inn, or bed and breakfast throughout the country and world. Our signs are prominently placed in each bathroom. We don't specifically mention the water conservation signs because their use is universal.

This was not our first visit to the Gaslight, and will definitely not be our last. This B&B is located within easy walking, and or short drive, to all of the historical sites, etc. The Inn and their rooms are truly lovely, very clean and the inn keepers, Becky, Mike and Elizabeth are trolly wonderful! You will feel at home from the time you arrive until the time you depart.
From the wonderful breakfast to the beautiful grounds to the History Gettysburg has to offer, you cannot go wrong. We love the whole package this lovely Inn and Town have to offer.
Try it, you won't be disappointed.

We went to the Inn and it would have been nice to get the welcome letter, because we were late before we came in a confirmation email or mail that laid out the parking after we took 20 min to figure out where to park the car. Also we were disappointed that we got the Lily room for the fireplace and then were were told we could not use it cause it was off the season. Well that is why we wanted the room for a romantic evening and we were disappointed greatly in that.

Also I can not eat some things and they knew it. But when we went to the snack counter both days the only cookies they had out there had stuff I could not eat in them. And the breakfast was nice the first morning but the second morning with cantaloupe and egg toast cups did not cut it for us. We have stayed in many bed and breakfast on the east coast and never saw that one. And if you don't like dogs or are scared of them (as my girl-friend is) they bring their dogs with them. We did not see the dog the second day so we think they kept them away from her.

It was a clean place but not as inviting, cozy and homey as we had expected.

We would like to thank this guest for the observations about their recent stay at our Inn.

The following are comments/clarifications regarding some of these observations:

1) When making an on-line reservation, as these folks did, we ask for the estimated time of arrival so that we can plan accordingly. If the estimated time is prior to 6pm and the time lapses, we make every effort to contact our guests to determine a new ETA. If we are not able to make contact, we always provide a “Late Letter” envelope with instructions about parking, breakfast, etc. for guests arriving after 6 pm. If we know ahead of time that you plan to arrive after 6pm, we let you know about the afterhours check-in procedures prior to your arrival. It is an easy procedure and convenient for all of our guests.

2) Regarding the fireplaces, our fireplaces are turned off beginning April 1 (unless it is still cold) and turned back on about the end of October (unless it gets cold earlier). During the summer, the Inn has central air conditioning. Having a fireplace and the air conditioning operating at the same time we feel would be an unnecessary use of energy. We make every effort to use energy conservatively. While the information about the fireplaces is already on our website, as a result of this observation we will add it to our booking page in an effort to avoid having someone miss it in the future.

3) We are always responsive to special needs that are communicated to us. For example, this guest informed us on their reservation form, “1 guest cannot have chocolate or apples in his food for breakfast.” As a result, we did not serve any breakfasts with apples or chocolate. The refreshment bar, however, holds “complementary” items which include cookies/baked good of the day.

4) We always attempt to have our breakfast be something unique, that you don’t have at home. We believe that this is one of the big reasons for staying at a bed & breakfast. Our baked eggs in maple toast cups is one of the recipes most often requested. In addition, the area surrounding Gettysburg is renowned for its fresh fruits. In season, we serve a variety of the local fruits including the wonderfully sweet cantaloupe.

5) Lastly, the dogs. Yes, we do have dogs and we do take them home at night and bring them with us in the morning. The moment we learn that a guest is not comfortable with dogs, we keep them home during their stay.
