Our group brought along our own horses and we stayed in a large open area right next to where our horses were kept. Most of the group slept in a huge tent, some in a small cabin and two of us in the mobile home that is available to rent at the campground. The restroom facilities were clean, the camp itself was clean and well maintained.
We enjoyed our own trail ride that went for almost three hours, the trails were well marked, many along side the roads that connect the battlefield, some went into the wooded areas where the smell of honeysuckles scented the air. We enjoyed an evening meal over the campfire and a quiet evening sitting around the fire.
Our area was very private and peaceful.
We hired a guide for our trail ride on Sunday, our guide took us out for approximately 2 hours and stopped every few minutes to go over the happenings from the battle. It was an interesting way to learn about the history in the area. Donn was extremely informative and took time to ask us what we were interested in hearing. I would suggest this campground especially for a group experience where you take your own horses. We would definitely go again.
