“June 2013 Weekend Trail Riding Trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2013

Our group brought along our own horses and we stayed in a large open area right next to where our horses were kept. Most of the group slept in a huge tent, some in a small cabin and two of us in the mobile home that is available to rent at the campground. The restroom facilities were clean, the camp itself was clean and well maintained.
We enjoyed our own trail ride that went for almost three hours, the trails were well marked, many along side the roads that connect the battlefield, some went into the wooded areas where the smell of honeysuckles scented the air. We enjoyed an evening meal over the campfire and a quiet evening sitting around the fire.
Our area was very private and peaceful.
We hired a guide for our trail ride on Sunday, our guide took us out for approximately 2 hours and stopped every few minutes to go over the happenings from the battle. It was an interesting way to learn about the history in the area. Donn was extremely informative and took time to ask us what we were interested in hearing. I would suggest this campground especially for a group experience where you take your own horses. We would definitely go again.

Room Tip: We rented the mobile home within the campground, it was spacious and clean.

I have camped here many times and even stop in for a visit if I have to stay somewhere else. Given my terrible experience this summer at the Super 8, I wish I had reserved a tent spot! This campground is fairly close to everything, and they have a store that is pretty well-stocked with plenty of snacks and souvenirs. The staff is always very kind and accommodating. They answer every question with a smile. I've never had a bad experience camping here probably half a dozen times. They are kid friendly and offer things to do on the campground from movie nights to horseback riding. If you're planning a trip to Gettysburg, try camping there. It adds to the experience!

Room Tip: Book a spot early, they get reserved fast!

We enjoyed Artillery Ridge. Smaller campground next to battlefield. Very friendly people. Crowned gravel pads. It was easy to level the camper by moving and watching the levels. No adjustment was necessary. 2 hour tour of the battlefield at national riding stables was well worth it (in the campground). No cable, but was able to get plenty of over the air stations. Sat outside by the campfire chatting with other campers anyways. The bathrooms were clean and recently remodeled. National came and got us and gave us a 10% discount when we decided to rent a car for the day.

We had a 6-person cabin, plus stalls for 5 horses. The cabin was nice enough, with two air conditioners. However, we could barely fit five adults (no married couples). We were promised two bunks plus a queen bed, but there was only one bunk, the queen, plus a pull-out sofa. Very crowded, and the sofa had a very thin mattress. The campground wasn't very crowded, so we couldn't judge normal noise levels.
The horse facilities were very acceptable, with well-maintained box stalls, small paddocks, and space to park horse trailers.
We had a tour of the battlefield on horse, which wasn't bad - we just happened to come on a very hot day. Much of the horse tour was eliminated last year, so we only got to half the battlefield, and had to come back the same way we went out. We could have take the tour by ourselves, and there were no other trails to ride in the shade.

I stayed at the Artillery Ridge campground because I had a mix up with a booking at another campground in the area. So, I had to quickly pick another campground. I picked this campground because of the horses. We took the one hour horseback riding tour of the battlefields. They did teach my kids 14 and 9 what to do before we went on the tour. My 9 year old son had never been on a horse. It was a wonderful experience to learn both how to ride and experience the battlefield from that perspective. The boys enjoyed riding their bikes through the campground. It had rained during our stay. Unfortunatlely, our site was muddy. But, we made the best of it. They did offer a Mother's day craft, spagetti dinner, and DJ for the Saturday evening before Mother's day. Very nice. The Wi-fi was slow. My only complaint was that they did NOT offer any cable tv. We are new campers and do not own a satallite. So, on a raining weekend, you do miss TV at night. The staff was very friendly and willing to help with anything that was asked of them. I would stay here again. It is the closest to all the major activities. You can walk to the cemetery if you wanted to do so.

Room Tip: Stay away from the barns for more privacy.

We had stayed in one of the little cabins in 2006. This time my parents came out with us for a vacation. We had one of the new cabins. It had a living room, bedroom, full bath room, and kitchen . Very nice and looked so awesome. We had a nice stay.
Only thing i have to say is they could us a ceiling fan in the kitchen and there wifi was very slow. But we had a nice stay.
