We really enjoyed the grounds and the room was comfortable. We stayed in Corporal Quarters just enough room for 2 people. It was all we needed. However the only issue is you can hear everything your neighbor says and does. I even know the names of the children who stayed next door...very sweet but would of been nice to have a bit more privacy. Upon check in there was no one at the desk and we had to wait 15 minutes. The breakfast they server at $6 each was ok but nothing to write home about. Had to ask for more coffee and waffle batter. The person running the desk was also taking care of breakfast...hence the lack of attention. They really need to have a person tending to the breakfast at all times. The porch overlooking the fields below was beautiful. Great place to have a wedding both for reception and outdoor wedding. Lake was pretty to look at but some nice benches surrounding it would be nice. We walked the grounds but no inviting place to just sit and enjoy the view. It would be nice to have just random benches around the property. Really beautiful place however it could be more that just average. Not sure I would go back..maybe.

We decided to stay at this location when we saw a great deal on living social. The deal was supposed to give us one night at the captains lodge. When we called to reserve our room, they were out of captains lodges so they put us in the lieutenants lodge, one level below what we paid for. We were thankful to still get a room considering it was memorial day weekend. The lodges are in the beautiful countryside of Gettysburg. We tried to check in around 1pm on Sunday. When we walked into the main lobby we were greeted with a quick hello. We told the gentleman at the front desk, "we know we are early, however we wanted to know if our lodge was ready?" He stated that normal check in wasn't until 4pm. I understood this but there has been many of other hotels during my travels that will accommodate. Unfortunately, it wasn't clean yet and the gentleman told us to come back in a couple of hours. Honestly, he didn't seem happy to be working. The good news is, these lodges are conveniently close to all major attractions. We were able to do some shopping at the outlets and visited 2 wineries before returning back to get our keys. It is a short drive into downtown Gettysburg, I'd say about 15 mins maximum. During our second interaction with the staff, my boyfriend picked up the keys and asked the gentleman if there was anything they could give us since we weren't getting the level room we actually paid for. He gave us a coupon for 2 free continental breakfasts which normally cost $5.95 per person. Our lodge was very clean and spacious. When you walk in the door there is living room with a pull out couch and a kitchen. Our view looked right into the woods. Then there is a second room which has 2 queen size beds, TV and very nice bathroom with stand up shower. The bathroom is made out of slate like tiles and feels very "lodge like". Our lodge also had a coffee maker, microwave, plates, cups and a good size fridge. One disappointing thing was we noticed the captains lodges have chairs out front in which you can sit and enjoy the spectacular view. The Lieutenants lodges do not have these. We enjoyed our night in Gettysburg by having dinner at the Dobbin house and then partaking in a paranormal ghost hunt later that night.

The next morning we went down to enjoy our breakfast before heading out to tour the battlefields. Well, there had a been a wedding the evening before so the normal breakfast dining area was closed and they sent us to a room in the back. It is your normal continental breakfast consisting of cereals, muffins, coffee, juices and waffle maker. The room was very uninviting. The back of the room was filled with wedding stuff in piles from the night before and the tablecloths at which we were supposed to sit at were very dirty. There was only a few bagels left. My boyfriend tried to make a waffle and there was no more batter. He had to go to the front desk and ask if it could be refilled. The gentleman said sure and took the batter away. We waited over 10 minutes for him to return, however he never did. I'm not sure how they can charge for this breakfast, as most hotel chains across the country would give this complimentary and also have someone on duty to make sure all food items stay stocked. For the price they normally charge for these lodges I believe that is the least they could do. Upon checkout, my boyfriend tried to ask the associate if this was their normal breakfast and he said he was sorry but wedding the night before had rented the normal breakfast dining area. I would think that they would still care about their other paying guests. Next, the lodges had charged my boyfriends credit card $325. We prepaid our room on living social and all we were contracted to pay was the taxes which should have been $34. He asked the gentleman at the front desk why this charge was made and the associate didn't have a good answer. He said he would get it reversed for him. The upsetting part, is this gentleman didn't even seem sorry. He had a very poor attitude. We didn't catch his name as he wasn't wearing a name badge. We assumed it would be on our check out receipt but wasn't. Please make sure to check your bank accounts after check in to make sure this doesn't happen to you. The main reason I still gave this review a good rating was because the lodges themselves were beautiful, great location, very quiet and very clean. This would be a great location for families as the lodges are very spacious. I would stay here again, however I would bring my own food and try to avoid the staff.

Had a decent stay at the Lodges at Gettysburg. Traveled on a Living Social voucher ... reservations and check-in were a breeze and the clerk at the desk was cordial and efficient. Lodges are a scenic, 10-minute drive to the battlefield - don't worry about any perceived distance.

I was slightly surprised with the Captains Quarters. The website was somewhat confusing - one page showed that the cabin could sleep 2-4, but the reservation page shows 2. There is no way more than more than 2 humans can sleep in the cabin without a rollaway bed ... as the cabin only has one bed. There's nothing that converts to a bed - like a sofabed or sofachair. In fact, there's nowhere to sit - other than the bed. Well, there is a small desk. So if you planned to eat in the room - you'd likely eat on the bed. The bathroom was fine, as was the kitchenette, even if the bathroom floor sloped a bit and the drain drained slowly, and the toilet flushed slowly. AC, internet, and TV worked great ... even if the TV was mounted a great deal of distance from the bed. Had a good night's sleep ... the bed was comfy.

The thing here is ... this place could be GREAT, rather than average. Why not add some landscaping? Why not upgrade the lake area? Why not add some furnishings to the Captains Quarters? Why not add some amenities around the check-in area, like a small outdoor gameroom, patio, etc?

While the stay was enjoyable ... I left thinking that someone simply saw an opportunity to make some money by building some cabins near Gettysburg. While there's nothing wrong with that, I think this spot would be so much better with some personality and passion - which is lacking. Right now, it is a decent place to stay, but not much else.

Room Tip: Captains Quarters only sleep 2, and there is limited space in the room to eat - should you choose to stay in.

This is an interesting way to stay in the area. A pleasant drive out of the site into the countryside takes you high up a ridge with a view of some of the battlefield. You can even spot Little and Big Round Top off in the distance. Don't be put off by the somewhat beat up driveway. It's not an indicator of things to come. The units were clean, quiet, with plenty of room. Bathroom was huge with real stone tile. All units seemed well kept and clean. Much nicer than staying in a chain hotel. The electric fireplace is cheesy so don't be fooled by that in the list of amenities. But everything else is great. Nice for a family.
