Many mixed feelings about this place, because our stay was a combination of really nice and really annoying. When we checked in, a very disinterested and sleepy front desk person checked us in, gave us no info, and seemed annoyed that we were even there. When we got to our room, it was literally swarming with flies. We unpacked and tried to kill the flies, which seemed like an impossible task. When we tried to call the front desk, the call just went to answering machine mode. We then drove down to the office.
Another front desk person was there, Jasmyn, who was delightful, helpful, and couldn't do enough to rectify the situation. She gave us an upgrade for a nominal fee and went down to our lodge to move us herself. She was absolutely wonderful.. This lodge was a Presidential lodge and actually had a wonderful view of the beautiful Gettysburg country side. Note: when you make a reservation, make sure you get a view of the countryside, and not just of other cabins, which many of them have.
So here are the pluses and minuses:
Pluses: A wonderful and quiet, scenic setting. Location is great, about 10-15 min outside of Gettysburg, an easy ride. Stocked kitchen, Keurig brewer (but not in all the lodges).
Minuses: BUGGY!! We still had some (though less) flies in our upgraded suite. Flies buzzed in our ears and woke us early each morning. Also I saw a dead bug under the sink in the bathroom. The last morning we were there, I found a HUGE centipede in the kitchen. Exterminator, anyone?
You can NEVER get in touch with the front desk. They are ALWAYS on answering machine mode, not a good thing. A second time I tried to get in touch with them and I had to drive down again. The person at the front desk couldn't have been more helpful, but they should be answering their phones.
After we left, we were about an hour away and realized that my husband had left something in the room.. Again we called the hotel, to no avail. I then called the emergency maintenance number given on the outgoing message. I gave my number to the maintenance person, who said someone at the front desk would call. That was yesterday, and NO CALL. So today I called again, and left a message with the General Manager, and explained about the item left and requested a call back. NO call back. Customer service, anyone?
No screens on the windows. Therefore, we were forced to keep the air conditioner on although the weather was gorgeous.
So, although we really did have a nice time, experienced some excellent customer service, and enjoyed the scenery, I really cannot say I would stay here again due to some serious problems in the way this facility is run. Some basic customer service and maintenance would go a long way here.
