We had bought a combo ticket which included the museum, but because of the time spent at the battlegrounds, etc, we were not able to see the museum on that day. The following day we explained this to the man at the entrance and no problem, we were allowed admission. Originally we thought it would be no big deal if we missed this museum. How wrong we were.

This is a wonderful museum which explains in detail the events leading up to the conflict and the battles which took place at Gettysburg. One of the rooms at the beginning allows you to listen to the opinions of both sides, then continues on to the battles. In the connecting rooms, each day's battles are explained in short films. Included in the rooms are artifacts and pictures. The pictures of those young soldiers.....

I could go on, but truthfully, this is a must see. We spent an hour here, but could easily spend two. If given the opportunity, I will go back. The exhibition ends on a powerful note. If you make it to Gettysburg, don't pass on the museum.

Go early to beat the crowds. The museum can become tight with a lot of people. The movie and cyclorama (all around painting) have timed tickets. Those two attractions take about 45 minutes, I believe. The museum attraction has a lot to read. My wife and I spent at least two hours and maybe three hours looking at the artifacts and reading the information. The museum has very high quality displays. I recommend doing this before the park to understand the battle beforehand.

The visitor center is a perfect place to get a better understanding of the Battle of Gettysburg. My husband is a history nerd and I am the complete opposite of that, yet we both Equally enjoyed the visit from the FREE ranger programs, the FREE trolley to Downtown Gettysburg to the Cyclodrama, Museum and Bus Guided tour $36pp, definitely worth it. Truly amazing experience. I'm sure we'll be back.

Did a private audio tour from the car, with a c.d. that explained what had happened and where it had happened. So many young men fought for the freedom of all men and died for the principles set forth by this country.
