“One of the nicest visitor centers in the country”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

This place is very nice and a fitting complement to the spectacular battlefield. Buying tickets was a smooth process and the cashier offered and explained the options. In addition, park rangers were available to help tourists make the right decisions to see the battlefield in the best way for each family. We bought an auto tour CD set and were in and out of the gift shop in no time. After we toured the battlefield for four or five hours, it felt great to come back into the cool center and see the movie. Morgan Freeman's voice is so soothing, and the film explains the battle very concisely. The cyclorama is not something that can be explained -- you just have to go and see it. It's absolutely incredible. The girl who was working up there was knowledgeable and able to answer our questions. The museum is impressive, and even though we were tired after about 6 hours at the battlefield, we stayed in the museum for quite awhile. Finally, while the gift shop certainly offers the usual cheesy, overpriced tourist stuff, they also offer a good selection of books and other, more useful souvenirs. The whole place is just well done.

“Balanced, detailed, well designed”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

The museum gives more detail than the driving tour, but if you have to choose between one and the other, choose the driving tour.

The design is well planned and interesting, more than you learned in grade school. Good photos and displays of relics.

Excellent book store.

The cyclorama is worth the time and money if you have it. It's a unique sensory experience.

“Great spot to start your visit”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

The new visitors' center is utterly amazing. The movie, cyclorama and museum help give visitors a good overall appreciation of what they see. It makes the entire experience so much more complete. Everyone from the person who knows nothing about the Civil War to the seasoned reenactor can learn something about why this was such an important time in history.

“Don't miss this”
Reviewed 21 June 2014 via mobile

If you visit Gettysburg you MUST see the film and cyclorama in the visitors centre. The film is extremely professional, narrated by Morgan Freeman, and I felt quite tearful by the end. Then you go to the cyclorama, which blew me away. It gives you a brilliant reconstruction of the battle and really helps to understand what happened. The museum goes on a bit but it was quite shocking to see 19th century adverts for slaves for sale. I would have given the visitor centre 5 stars but for the dreadful cafe serving rubbish junk food with totally disorganised staff behind the counter. Take a picnic!
