Arrived in the evening and saw the Cyclorama to give ourselves a little perspective. Then scheduled an 830am car tour through the battlefield the next morning. I called the visitors center one week ahead and for 65$ we had our own private tour guide who drove us around and brought the battle alive. It was truly the best tour I've ever been on. My heart stops just thinking of how important those 3 days in history are to America- a United America! I highly recommend taking an early morning tour- when we left at 11am the cars were filing into the overflow parking. (Btw a private car tour is cheaper than tickets for a group bus tour for a family of 4- and a whole lot better too!)

The centre is a well organized modern pavilion which handles thousands of visitors each day. The staff is professional and friendly. Lines move quickly and there's lots of verbal and visual info provided on how to best enjoy your visit.

The civil war movie is a great, well produced documentary and how can you not be moved by the voice of Morgan Freeman. Get to the front of the theatre so that the screen wraps around all of your periphery vision.

The Cyclorama is also amazing and not to be missed. Quite a work of art.

The museum is very detailed and offers numerous perspectives accounts and artifacts so be prepared to give it some time. It's much bigger than it first appears.

The book and gift store are great. Pretty well everything you'd want in civil war literature and souvenirs. Very well done.

The cafeteria and concession are poor. Coffee was cold. Muffin was stale. Counters and tables were dirty. They've got a captive audience here so I guess they don't care too much about food service. Pity because with a bit of effort and imagination they could do something wonderful here instead of the junior high school like facility currently in operation.

Other than that it is a very good visitor centre.

This museum has a lot of artifacts, is free to see, and offers up much of its collection for sale. Definitely worth a stop if you get to go. Plus I found out that the owners are in-laws to Mickey Dolenz of the Monkeys so that was pretty cool as well!

The movie, narrated by Morgan Freeman, and the Cylorama are amazing!! The museum has many interesting exhibits that are laid out in chronological order, from before the battle to during and after, including how the soldiers lived and the effects on the townspeople. It was kind of like a maze so I wasn't sure if I got to see everything.

This is a great place to visit, and you don't want to miss the cyclorama as it is just an amazing depiction of what those 3 days entailed in history.
