Came here on our way out to the battlefield. Beautiful new center, nice exhibitions, but cost was more than anticipated. I am a little biased because I believe our national parks and treasures should be accessible to all, and the cost here could be prohibitive ($16/adult). Nicely curated, though!

Our 11 year old grandson loved the museum, movie and the cyclorama of the battle. It was a great place to start because it prepared him for the sites he would see on the auto tour.

The visitor Center is the place to get your tickets for the bus tours, the movie, cyclorama, and the museum.

The movie is very informative. The cyclorama is a 360 degree painting that shows a picture of the battle. As you listen to the narrative, you can walk around to see the painting.

The museum is big with lots of information. You could spend hours there if you want to read everything.

There is also a nice gift shop located in this building.

If you are there around lunchtime, there is a deli with good food at reasonable prices.

Parking is not close so expect a short hike.

Stop here for your orientation to the battlefield. I could take or leave the movie -- Its focus is more on the civil war in general rather than Gettysburg in particular. The museum is outstanding. Parking can be difficult, and no matter where you park there is a long walk to get inside. Overall, a great facility, and the most complete bookstore in town.

We've been to any number of national parks and visitors centers over the years. The Gettysburg Visitors Center is easily one of the best. New, clean spacious building includes a bookstore with about everything you might want to make the most of your visit or for further learning after as well as the usual array of souvenir stuff. The movie (narrated by Morgan Freeman) about the battle and the cyclorama afterward are not to be missed, especially if you have little previous knowledge of battle. The Cyclorama is just stunning and the presentation is excellent. They utilize different lighting and audio effects to imitate times of the day and to focus on certain relevant parts of the story of the battle which the Cyclorama presents (see my photo for an example). Easily worth the $ and the time. The museum likewise is very well organized and presented with many historical factoids and exhibits. Similarly designed like the Ford's Theatre in Washington. Gives you a real sense of the times. Includes a snack bar and a restaurant. Bathrooms likewise excellent. Plenty of close in parking (don't believe the signs about lots near the visitors center being full).

My only complaint would be that I would like to have been able to come back and see the museum at a later time / day. I was anxious to tour the battlefield and didn't give the museum all the attention it deserves.

There is no fee to go in the visitors center but there is one for the movie & cyclorama.
