“A different Inn completely”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

We can only echo the sentiments of other guests about the ideal location the lovely rooms and the Innkeepers parents who were so nice and so very helpful. We never really got to meet their daughter and only said Hi to her husband one night as we returned from dinner - thought there maybe would have been more of an interest in our stay from him. We stayed in the Generals quarters which is a large room with the most comfortable bed and windows overlooking the outside lake and garden.
Luckily there was only one other couple on the far side of the Inn so we didn't have the possible issue of people looking into our room from the outside seating area. The windows wrap around the room but the glass is not the kind where you can see out and no-one can see in so it could be embarrassing and we wouldn't really want to spend our visit with the blinds down all the time just in case.
The other point worth mentioning about the room is that the bathroom is huge with a relatively small shower which appears to have been fitted in the toilet as an afterthought it felt as though there should have been a state of the art shower in there to match the rest of the room.
The facilities are amazing and we made use each evening of the lovely pool although we had little time for much else. It is the kind of place where you could spend a most relaxing few days just chilling and making the most of what it has to offer and seems to be almost too good for tourists with a hectic agenda.
Apart from the comments on the room our only complaint was that if you want to take your breakfast at any time other than 9am then there is a per person charge for doing so - in our experience, not just in USA but elsewhere too, we have NEVER had that situation before. The nightly charges are not on the low side and if guests need to leave early (in our case we had to return our rental car in Harrisburg and then get to the train station for a train to New York) then it is usual for the innkeepers to accommodate an earlier breakfast . Some tours start early too and guests need that flexibility. The parents who were looking after guests during our stay did get us some orange juice and bananas which were left in the fridge.

Room Tip: check out privacy if you will be in a room looking onto the grounds

Our second stay at the Inn at White Oak was even better than the first! The view from our room was breathtaking! The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are luxurious and the location is perfect - only a few minutes north of town. The Inn keepers treat you like family and have thought of every detail - from the homemade snacks, to plush bathrobes to the billiards table and board games to the thoughtful decor, not to mention the entertainment theater. Breakfast is made from scratch and is pure heaven!! The only place away from home where my husband can relax. We both felt like we were home away from home - super comfortable and cozy!!! Perfect place to relax.

Room Tip: Book early!

We stayed 2 nights for our 6th year wedding anniversary! We loved every second! We loved watching our wedding video in the theatre room, Soaking in our private corner jacuzzi before breakfast, night time swim in the indoor pool, eating the fresh baked goods each night, and having the best sleep because of the most comfortable bed! We didn't want to leave! The Inn at White Oak is heaven on earth!

We had a great time at the Inn. The grounds are lovely and the pool house and main house are incredible. Over all a great experience - but here are a couple specifics.

The breakfasts are quite large - delicious, but a lot of food if you aren't a big breakfast eater. We stayed in the Commander's Quarters and the Colonel's Quarters, two nights each. In both of the rooms (likely in all the rooms) the fire places are actually space heaters with faux flame lights in them. Kind of tacky - I wasn't expecting real fire places, but gas at least from the photos. They're still decent for ambiance though.

The Commander's Quarters is really exceptional - huge room, incredible bathroom and it's on the opposite side of the house from the rest of the rooms. The only thing about the bathroom is the shower is tiny, and the toilet seems stuck in as an afterthought. The massive copper tub is really something though.

The Colonel's Quarters was also lovely, the side room is nice to have - especially if as I'm more of a night owl than my wife - but as a couple we had to rearrange the furniture to watch TV comfortably.

We had a similar experience with the TV area in the Commander's quarters - the sofa is facing sideways to the TV, so lying down to face the TV makes sense. We moved the big comfy chair out of the bathroom so we could both lounge and watch comfortably - the owners didn't appreciate this however.

Bottom line: an incredible B&B, easily the best I've been to and certainly the best in Gettysburg.

Room Tip: I'd always opt for the Commander's Quarters if you can afford it - no other room comes close...

My fiancee and I have just returned from an amazing weekend at The Inn at White Oak. There are not enough adjectives to describe this place. I honestly believe you have to make the trip out and acquire your own. We are so excited, we already book reservations to return in October of next year. :-)

From the minuite we arrived, I felt as though the innkeepers (Mom and Dad) had known us their entire lives. What amazing hospitality. We were given a tour of the Inn (common rooms, of which I will explain later) and escourted to our rooms. We were staying in the Generals Quarters. Upon our arrival, I was greeted by roses in the shape of hearts all thru our room. My beloved arranged for this lovely suprise. The roses petals created a wonderful smell for the entire stay.

The inn is spacious. One of the amazing features of this inn is the use of light. I personally am a huge fan of windows and open space, our room, THe Generals Quarters, took full advantage of this. We had windows completely surrounding us and the view, no matter what time of the day, was simply stunning. We had wonderful animals that would play outside of our windows, we were greeted by squirrels, deer, and our favorite, the Blue Heron.

The Generals Quarters. Our room, as stated above, was spacious. Our bed was amazingly comfortable, and very unique. I loved the steps to get up to it. We also loved the jacuzzi tub, and I was obsessed about the sinks. Oh, to have a bathroom that big. :-). Loved the atmosphere of the fireplace and the attention to detail within the room. Binoculars were even left for bird watching or animal watching.

The Property: Lush. I think that is the only word to describe this. Trees, ponds, fish, and wonderful views. If you visit, please stop over and see the huge goldfish and cat fish that reside in the pool. They are very cool. "Dad" gave us fish food to go out and feed them, I personally thought this was so cool. We were going to ask our innkeepers what they ate, and go into town and get food for them, they beat us to the punch. We decided to take a walk up and around the property beyond the house. What an amazing view. If you visit, take the walk. You get to go up and look over the town of Gettysburg.

Common Rooms: We have stayed at many B&B's and this was the first in which we felt welcome to actually use the common rooms. While my beloved and I are not "avid" pool sharks, we like to play pool. This was an amazing touch to this inn. A pool table with all the bells and whistles. It rained on one of the days were there, and we spent the afternoon shooting a few games. We then ventured over to the theater room, and were going to watch a movie, but, choose to go walking instead. The "pantry" is always stocked with amazing goodies. We had chocolate chip cookies, and peanut butter fudge. Hershey's minatures were always out as well if you had a craving for chocolate. They have a game room, a tea room, and a spa as well. We did not make use of these rooms while here, maybe the next time around. Lastly, they have an indoor heated pool and a very very nice pool house.

Breakfast: Oh, this is an event. The first day of our stay my fiancee had ordered breakfast in bed for us. What an amazing thoughtful thing from him, and the food is simply amazing. Both days that we were at the inn, it was a fruit dish, then something sweet, then an entre that was amazing. Kudos!!!!

Back to the hospitality of this inn. We have never stayed at an inn that made us feel as if we were family and the property was ours to just explore. I also have never hugged an innkeeper before when we left, this was a first. Just an amazing experience. Thank you also for letting us see Madoline, I do hope on our next trip she is not so scared and will say hello.

Can not wait to return. :-)

Room Tip: Book early, this place is amazing and I am sure books quickly

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Inn at White Oak for a few days and our stay was spectacular. We have stayed at many bed and breakfasts over the years some of which in Gettysburg and the Inn at White Oak is by far the best in Gettysburg and by far the best Inn we have stayed in anywhere. It will be hard for anywhere else to measure up after our experience. The guest rooms are spotless, spacious and perfectly appointed with gorgeous views, the grounds are spectacular, there are many comfortable common rooms to curl up and read while sipping tea or coffee (24 hours) with their delicious homemade desserts, watch movies, play billiards, enjoy spa services in-house and swim in their incredible heated indoor pool! The breakfasts were the best we have had anywhere and the hospitality cannot be topped. Why go anywhere else? We will be back again and again.

Room Tip: Allt he rooms are spacious, spotless and beautiful!
