“Meh....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2007

Had a hard time finding the hotel. When my boyfriend called to book, they said they were located on Steinwehr Ave.
We got to Gettysburg and drove up and down Steinwehr a few times looking for the hotel. Stopped into Budget Host to ask directions and they told us it was waaaaaay out past the battlefields, which is Emmitsburg Rd.
So, we got to the hotel. Looked pretty empty and kind of like an older roadside motel.
Went to check in, took forever! Apparently whoever was working behind the desk was too busy with other things besides checking in guests.
After ringing the bell a few times and waiting for over 10 mins, we finally got checked in.
Got to the room. Had to practically kick down the door because it wouldn't open. Finally got inside, oh my.
The door had mildew all over the back of it. The room smelled like bug spray when we walked in. The place looked like it hadn't been painted or renovated in years.
The beds were VERY bouncy and there weren't fitted sheets, so when you moved, the bare mattress was exposed...Ewh.
The bathroom was small and sorta cramped. The baseboard on the tub was peeling off and when I showered that evening, we found that a family of spiders must have lived in there, but got washed out by the leaky tub.
The A/C was cold which would have been nice in the SUMMER. For some reason, the temp wouldn't adjust and it didn't want to go off.
Overall, its a cheap "just for one night" hotel. It did the job, but I wouldn't go back.

I've stayed here in the past with no problems & have always found it to be clean, if a bit shabby. But I haven't been here in almost 3 years & boy, has this place gone downhill!

NEVER trust a place that charges you for the full stay upon check-in! Any reputable hotel, motel, etc. puts a hold on your credit card & then you pay in full upon check-out. They charge you up-front at places like this because they know you are likely to refuse to sleep here so it's the only way to make any money.

For starters, the rooms are VERY shabby now. Ours had a noisy, smelly air conditioner & stained, peeling toilet seat. They advertise cable TV, but we received only 8 channels & three of them were without sound. Plus, no local channels so couldn't even get a weather report.

The beds don't even have fitted sheets so every time you move, you touch bare mattress -- in a roadside motel, that's never a good thing.

The walls & doors had dirt, scuff marks & scrapes/holes. There were smashed bugs on the ceiling! The absolute worst is when we opened the nighstand to retrieve a telephone book & cockroaches crawled out!!!

It was around 11:30 PM & we had to hurriedly find a place to sleep. Now I'm fighting the charge on my card because they want $100 for the night I DIDN'T sleep there.

We were the only guests in the place, so it's not as though they were turning others away on a Wednesday night due to a full house.

Do yourself a favor - in Gettysburg, stay at a REAL motel or hotel, such as the Quality Inn. Everything about the Quality Inn was better - cleaner, larger, more channels, better bed, plus no bugs, filth or horrible stenches. it was cheaper than the roach motel plus they allow pets, too!

This is your basic roadside motel just outside of Gettysburg. The rooms were better than what I expected. It looks like the rooms were renovated not to long ago. The carpet was new, and the room had nice borders along the top of the walls. The Bed/Pillows were comfortable, and the shower was good. The property had a large pool on the premises, and even though I didn't use it, the pool looked very clean. The only negitive that I had was the TV was limited (only 10 stations). I really didn't expect a lot when I booked this room, but I was pleasantly surprised.

We stayed at the inn for two nights. The room was a very low price. It was really clean--to include the bathroom. ( We were in room #10 ). The staff was most kind and they went out of there way to make sure we were happy!! I can't speak for others that have been here, but our time was a good one. This very peaceful-basic service motel is just a short way from Boyds Bear Country and that made it so nice to be able to drop off our purchases and then head out to the battlefield. With what we saved by staying here we were able to treat ourselves to a one night stay at the VERY haunted Farnsworth House. But then again--we paid more for one night there than we did for two at the Red Carpet Inn. I would reccomend the Red Carpet if you are looking for the basic-no frills-peaceful little country motel!!!!!

If you want a room close to the battlefield at a good rate, I would recommend the Red Carpet Inn. The room was not spectacular, but kept very clean by a cheerful, friendly staff. The pool, again not luxurious, was also clean.
Cable T.V. had good reception.
I felt very secure there with the owner living on site.
Boyd's Bears, although not on my list to see, is just down the road, easy access to major highway.
We will stay there again.

Our trip to Gettysburg was a little surprising when we got to the Red Carpet Inn and couldn't believe our eyes. The pictures that we had seen on the internet didn't match what we saw when we got there. It looked a bit run down on the outside. When we entered the room, we noticed the window was broken and the air conditioner was falling apart. the pillows felt like we were sleeping on card board. I spoke to a few other people when they showed up and their reaction was the same. The one thing that we were thankful for was the price we paid. I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless you are didn't want to spend to much and didn't care how you slept.
