“Beautiful new hotel, 12 minutes from local attractions, hard to find with GPS.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2009

This beautiful, new hotel, had elegant open areas to walk around or sit and relax, nice size rooms, comfortable beds with great pillows at a quiet location (refrigerators were $10 extra per night). It's about 12 - 15 minutes from the Gettysburg battlefields and the tourist center/museum, and center of town Gettysburg attractions. It's located off the intersection of Routes 15 and 30 (in a brand new area which hasn't been developed yet, right next to a Courtyard by Marriott and a theater which shows a half hour film of the Civil War battle that took place at Gettysburg - you can purchase discount tickets at the hotel desk). The only downside was finding the hotel. Our GPS couldn't locate the address, and when we called the hotel and they gave us other addresses to program in, it led us down very dark one way rural roads leading to dead ends. Had they just told us to stay on Route 15 until we got to Route 30 we could have found it easily. Do NOT use your GPS if it takes you off the main road, you'll just get lost in the dark and wander around like we did. We used Priceline and got a great rate (less than half the posted rate) and really enjoyed our stay once we finally found the place. I also suggest using the Federal Rangers private guide who accompanies you in your own car, to tour the battlefields (it's the same price as the 2 hour bus tours for 2 people, but much more fun and informative - $55 you make the appointment in the morning at the tourist center/museum of Gettysburg for a tour you can take then, or later in the morning, or afternoon, and you can see the movie, tour the Cyclorama, and tour the museum while you're waiting or before or after.

Exceeded expectations. A little off the main drag, and that was fine with us. Nice large rooms, nice restaurants and friendly staff.

I booked one night on Priceline - what a great deal! The Wyndham and Courtyard Marriott are the 2 newest and nicest hotels in Gettysburg - they sit together right off the highway from Harrisburg to Gettysburg, at the intersection with York Ave - which has many restaurants, stores, etc. This is a brand new facility, decorated in Presidential theme. The lobby and public spaces are spacious and well decorated - the hotel must host meetings and conventions. The rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed. My room had 2 double beds, a sitting chair, a desk and chair, and an LCD TV. There is free wired internet access. There is plenty of free parking, although the parking lots aren't that close. However, you can pull up in the spacious drive in front of the hotel or load / unload. The new visitor center at Gettysburg is fantastic and well worth the visit.

Although we only stayed one night, I was delighted with the Wyndham. The hotel had a beautiful lobby, with a real Gettysburg feel in the decor in both the public spaces and the rooms. Our room was very large and very clean. Warning if you are allergic to down: the entire bed, including mattress topper, pillows, and comforter are filled with down. I had to have the entire bed stripped when we checked in at 10 p.m. However, the staff were very accommodating, and for those without allergies, the bed was a dream! We had an excellent price on the room through hotwire.com.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2009

I recently stayed for three nights at the Wyndham Gettysburg. The hotel is attractive and well decorated, although it seems odd that the hotel had no outdoor space at all and essentially is plunked down in a sea of concrete. The suite was spacious -- particularly the bathroom -- but had lots of annoying little quirks: for example, the single telephone was located in the bedroom rather than on the desk and had no paper or pen for phone messages; the bar sink faucet could only be turned off by jamming the handle into the mirror; the smoke detector/fire alarm in the bedroom functioned as a strobe light all night long, which light sleepers may want to note. There seemed to be a lot of corner cutting going on. The television was considerably smaller than the space for which it had been designed. We had to beg for a packet of coffee each day and replacing used bars of soap or shampoo seemingly is out of the question. There was none of the guest service/comfort orientation one expects at a better hotel.
There was a large group at the hotel for 2 of the 3 nights of our stay. Halls were constantly littered, on arrival we could not get to the elevators because convention tables were set up in the traffic pattern, the floor in front of the elevator was often wet and slippery from children in dripping swimsuits, and room service was slow perhaps owing to the number of people. As this hotel obviously does a lot of group and convention business, that the staff could not deal with a group was surprising.
The room was marginally clean at the start. On the first day, it was not cleaned until I called the front desk (one cannot call housekeeping), about 5:00. Eventually, someone came and did a cursory job. On the second day, the room was cleaned without a call, and the cleaning job was slightly better.
On the second night of the stay, the smoke detector in our bedroom (and in rooms all over the hotel) began blaring about 1:15 a.m. It was impossible to sleep, or even stay in the room, with the sound. People first evacuated the building and then, learning that there was no fire, gathered in the public areas, some taking pillows and blankets to sleep in the hotel bar. The hotel's response to the situation was poor. No one expressed the slightest concern for the comfort of guests forced from their rooms in the middle of the night -- no offer of a glass of water, a blanket or even an apology. There were no status updates unless one joined a line to speak with someone at the front desk, so word of what was going on was passed along from guest to guest as the night wore on. From time to time, hotel personel could be seen standing around chatting with each other. It was about 4:00 a.m. before the alarm in my room was turned off.
Some people apparently asked for and received refunds for their room charges; others were told they could have a free breakfast; and still others were told that the hotel would refund 25% of the night's charges. When I checked out, the desk clerk did not inquire about my stay or offer any apology for a sleepless night. She said that that management had decided on a 25% refund and if I didn't like it, I could call the manager on Monday. She had a stack of business cards right at hand.
All in all, I can see why other reviewers may have had a better impression of this hotel than I, particularly if their stay was not marred by a large group and blaring sirens. The moral may be to ask when you reserve whether there are any large groups scheduled for the same period.

I got this hotel from a Priceline bid so I had no idea what to expect. This hotel is about 2 miles from town in a new complex with another hotel and huge movie theater. We were there for 2 nights at the first part of July. It was exceptionally quiet the two nights we were there. It felt like we were the only ones on our floor. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with a presidential theme throughout. The staff was very knowledgeable with giving directions to good restaurants and places to go in town. Everything about the hotel looked brand new. The rooms were very nicely decorated with a big flat screen TV and very comfortable beds, and a USA Today paper was left for us every morning. The bathroom was huge with a very nice walk-in shower. This was my first time at a Wyndham property, but I will definitely stay there again.

We were extremely impressed with the hotel. The staff was caring and very professional. Our room was wonderful, clean and quiet. The rainshower in the bathroom was so relaxing after a long day of walking/touring. We ate dinner in the dining room and enjoyed probably the best filet in Gettysburg. Our only wish would have been that the hotel was a little closer to the things we wanted to see.......but we would definitely stay there again!!
