We stayed at the Brafferton Inn on Oct 14 & 15, 2006. It was a birthday weekend for my boyfriend, a history buff. The location was ideal - walking distance to everything in town. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and found the innkeepers to be very friendly. They provided us with a CD that contained a driving tour of the battlefield that was excellent. We found the breakfast to be just OK. The pastries were great, but the apple cinnamon french toast was soggy.

We did have some issues with our stay, however. We stayed in "Dorothy's Hideaway" which was a nice, comfortable room with a large, remodeled bath that contained a jacuzzi tub. Our room had a 'in the wall' heating and cooling unit. As the temps were in the 30s at night, we used the unit to heat the room. It was extemely loud and woke me up every time it turned on. On our second night, we were abruptly awoken by the smoke detector in our room. Once we determined that there was not a fire, we determined that the heating unit was emiting a terrible smoky smell (think about 200 hairdryers blowing up at once). We left the room to call the innkeepers and let them know what happened (this was approximately 5am) as we were concerened that other guests would have heard the smoke detector. The innkeepers did not apologize for the situation and just asked us to turn off the unit. After returning to the room, we discovered that the filter on the heating unit was extremely clogged (which probably caused the terrible smell).

We finally fell back asleep around 7:30am and thus slept through breakfast. We rushed to check out by 11am. The innkeepers only offered us a 30% discount on a future stay. I was honestly too tired and too eager to find some breakfast to protest this offer as it really didn't make up for our experience. Overall, we enjoyed the trip to Gettysburg, but I was unhappy with the way the situation was handled.

We just got back from two nights at the Brafferton Inn. (October 14th and 15th, 2006). What a wonderful experience.

My wife and I were looking for a nice, relaxing getaway to celebrate our anniversary and this proved to be a great decision. As other reviews have said, the Hodges are very welcoming and gave us a tour before showing us our rooms. When we had questions they were there. We also attended an attraction that they were unfamilar with and they wanted to know our opinion so they could tell their future guests.

The parking in the back was not an inconvenience so dont even worry about that.

We ate at many restaurants in Gettysburg and we both agreed that the breakfast that we had at the inn were the highlights of our food experience. Creative, imaginative and delicious. The perfect way to start off the day.

They had many books in the sitting room and we had the pleasure of talking with one of their other guests for quite a while.

We were in another local bed and breakfast buying tickets for a tour of that house--while we were there, a couple checked in and they were treated like a business transaction (unfriendly)-Meanwhile at the Brafferton, everyone was welcomed with a smile like a family guest.

DEFINATELY WOULD RECOMMEND STAYING HERE!

My husband, 11 year old son and myself stayed at the Brafferton Inn for two nights the week-end of September 23rd. Upon arriving at the Inn we were warmly greeted. They were busy at the time, and we were told to help ourselves to some cookies and wait in the sitting room. A few minutes later, we were given a nice tour of the Inn and shown to our room. We stayed in the Cordori Suite. The room was very spacious. There was a queen or full bed and a full size pull out sleeper sofa in the sitting room. The room was very clean and decorated with many nice antiques. The breakfasts were very delicious. After breakfast the first morning, we looked forward to the next breakfast. We were not disappointed. You were given a choice of three seating times. We received both requests.

As others have stated parking is located behind the Inn in a public garage. I was concerned about this before making our reservations. We found the garage to be very convenient and not a problem at all. The Inn is located right off the main circle in town. The location is very convenient to shopping and restaurants. While my husband and son relaxed at the Inn, I was able to shop at the antiques fair that was going on in town that week-end. I really enjoyed taking an afternoon break in the main sitting room with a cup of coffee and cookies.

I would highly recommed staying at the Brafferton Inn. I look forward to going back.

We spent two nights at the Brafferton Inn in Gettysburg and found the Hodges family to be very helpful and attentive hosts. The inn itself dates to the 1700s and is absolutely charming. We stayed in the room distinguished by a minie ball embedded in the fireplace -- a relic of the Battle of Gettysburg. The hotel is very convenient to all the downtown shopping streets and you can walk to great restaurants and the theatre (!). If it is still showing, be sure to see the Broadway-style musical "For the Glory" about the civil war -- we were very favorably impressed! The breakfasts are delicious and plentiful. The only drawback is that the inn does not have its own parking, and you have to park in a Municipal lot, but the parking is cheap, and very close by, so it isn't a major problem. The battlefield visitors center is not within walking distance, but is about a five minute drive away. We had a lovely time at the Brafferton Inn.

This Inn is a historical Gem with wonderful hosts. Upon arrival we were given a tour to get acquainted with the inn and then shown our rooms. We only stayed for one night- outside of their usual 2-3 night policy but they had a room available when we called and they were happy to accommodate us. They set up a tour of the Gettysburg area with a War historian named Charlie. What a lovely day we had with him. They also recommended a fun Ghost Tour company for us to enjoy during our evening along with the Dobbin House for Dinner. We were able to see so much of Gettysburg on our very short stay and yet still enjoy their lovely inn and delightful breakfast. Given we were there on the 3rd of July the location was superb. We could walk just 5-10 minutes and we were on Cemetery Hill and at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. We had a lovely time here and can't wait to return.
